ridiculous waiting times for window delivery in new house build

Just wondering if anyone doing new build either now or previously has had to endure crazy delays with windows?
Currently in middle of new build project..... completed an order for windows mid - late april.... was told delivery would be 5 weeks from this time....We still have no windows.......constantly being told to expect windows every couple of weeks but looking at possible late september delivery at this stage if schedule not pushed back again. Just wondering if anyone out there has had any similar experience. Our supplier is a company based in Dublin bringing windows in from Denmark..

Sadly this is all too common in my experience - although this is the worst case I have heard of .

8 Weeks routinely turned into 14 or 15 weeks for me .

One thing I will say for our large "local" guys ( you all the one one I mean ) - doesn't happen with them .

Not acceptable, a deadline is just that, I hope you have no deposit put down. It is incredible that companies are acting like that in this climate. I wish I could ask you to name and shame, but the charter does not allow it. (I would cancel the order, as they have broken contract, and I would order afresh from another company) contact your solicitor about any loses from delays.

Interesting advice, but not sure its realistic, ( in my opinion ). The poster probably put an amount of time into getting quotes, and doing research before making a purchase decision. Of course he put down a deposit, many Co's are looking for substantial deposits. Local agents for manufacturers outside the state will give guidelines as to deliveries over which they have no control, or influence.
Cancelling the Contract will forfit the deposit, and the wait will be even longer. plus he now helps to put his solicitor's kids thru College.

When windows are finally delivered, use some of the excuses they used on you to delay payment, remember the windows will be made and useless to the Supplier, other than in your house,so tell them to take them back, if a comprimise on payment cannot be reached.

Moderators, suggest when posters seek advice on windows from outside the State, purchased thru local agents you you post a link to this thread.

Ours took approx 11 weeks from date of order. Their factories were closed for the month of July - as seems to be the case with most of the European manufacturers. We missed the deadline for ordering to have them before the July closure.

Windows arrived this day last week - the date we were given 10 weeks ago. At least they were up front with the delay.

As for going with a different supplier ... not a chance. Too much time, effort and emotional involvement has been expended to get a product that 100% ticked all the boxes for the boss- could not go through that again !!

Now all we need to do is keep them clean !

The information in the Opening Post is that the Poster was told delivery would be 5 weeks from the order date of mid - late April, that makes delivery at the end of May, we are now at the end of August!

Here, I disagree as the contract was broken when the delivery date came and went with no windows delivered, under the circumstances any solicitor would demand any deposit back in full. Costs are another matter.

12 weeks overdue, how long should you wait?
If the OP had acted when the delivery date passed, another company could have come and measured, made the product, delivered it and installed it by now.
As I said previously, costs are a seperate matter.

Stooping to their level is unprofessional, and where does it leave any warranty?

Much better to speak to recent past customers of the agents for their opinion on the service given.

We have handed over a 50% deposit.

They have given us delivery dates which have come and gone, and yes looking back we should have jumped ship and gone else where.
We are more worried about losing our deposit and having to go through the whole process again, as opposed to waiting a few more weeks and keeping both.
seeking legal advice at this stage.
Will have to wait and see what happens.

We now see from recent post that a 50% deposit was paid, Solicitors can demand all they want but its a court that will award the deposit back if they refuse and how long will that take.

Costs may be another matter but its money spent.

Unprofessional my backside, with respect, we are too compliant, and afraid to complain in this country. I am suggesting using the strong position of windows made, and valueless to the supplier in any other location to reach a comprimise on price, INCLUDING THE WARRANTY.

The delivery dates have been missed, delays to other trades, a serious discount is appropriate

I would get legal advice alright. Its a tough situation though, because when they have your deposit they may be very slow to give it up, especially if the windows are made and are in transit. To me the easy life solution would be to try and get them to send on the windows asap. If you dont have the budget to get another set of windows then your project will be under threat if your getting stuck in a legal fight.

I can tell you, from a case 2 years ago it took 5 months to get to court and the judge was very sympathetic towards the house builder.

and got back again as in the case above.

To use your own logic the warranty becomes nothing more than a piece of paper if you pull a stroke like that on the suppliers. Try getting one of them back!

Agreed, but they won't give it up easy.
