Hey just want to confirm he law on this, i work for a pizza company and if a customer demands a refund on my order for any reason it has to come out of my pocket. Also if the till is down at the end of the shift it is split between the staff. Its becoming a nuisance losing so much money every week.

Completely illegal, your employer has absolutely no right to dock your pay without your permission.

I'm not sure about the refunds, but if it is written into your contract, that staff must make up till shortages, then it is perfectly legal.

AND you did agree with it when you signed the contract.

BUT only if its in the contract.

Nonsense, and I've seen this messing before.

But what happens in hotel if a waitress accidently drops a €300 bottle of wine?

If you smash a pallet of computer chips in Intel your family would owe millions, indentured servants for generations. Ok that's not going to happen but it's easy to cause millions of euro worth of damage in seconds

Read your contract on this but this should be challenged

If its in the contract you sign, then you have agreed to be docked. Its not nonsense by any means.

And if intel had it in their contracts, they legally can do it as well !

dont know about the refund part of it,but if the till is down and its in your contract then its legal.why are the customers getting refunds if it is down to mistakes made you or others i can see why they might then take it from your wages.most retail or food outlets have this in peoples contracts, if it wasnt people could take what they liked from the tills.try to get codes or keys for each person who use the till then they should be able to find out which persons takeings are down at the end of the shift. also ask to have a look at order tabs at the end of your shift and compare this to the till takeings this will tell you if your boss is pulling a fast one.

That's nonsense about the customer demanding a refund. For a start, all the raw materials are deducted against vat and tax, and the company adds a markup. I would make a complaint directly to NERA (see employmentrights.ie)

When making your complaint pick on the one manager who is enforcing the ridiculous rule and make sure he is named at least 20 times in your complaint. Make it personal. Make sure Nera know that this person is responsible. Make sure to include in your complaint the fact that these deductions are not listed on your payslip, that they're made out of your net pay, and the effect of them brings your pay below minimum wage. If the money comes out of your pocket as cash state this in your complaint.. and say that you hand it to the manager who does not give you a receipt.

This will get the guy fired.. even if the owners allow this to go on, the manager is enforcing it so make sure he pays :) When NERA come snooping the owners will fire the guy for gross misconduct.

    I hate stupid people!

Let us know how it works out.

if there is contract and this on that contract and he signed it then nera wont even look at it,but it should be on his payslip at end of week.if this manager is pulling a fast one then he could be done for theft.check your payslip if it is not on it you should go to the owner or the head office.
