He reminds me of Ciaran McDonald the way he goes deep for the ball, his positioning and his distribution.
    A sort of playmaker.

Cannot give the man more of a compliment.

He is a joy to watch.

I dunno about player of the year as Bernard Brogan has been absolutely superb so far...well if marty has a good AIF then who knows.

He has the young player of the year in the bag though.

The lad has huge potential, he would be such a loss to the game if he was still in Oz.

His ability to keep things simple but hugely effective is admirable.
    Almost Xavi like :D
The McDonald comparison does seem to describe him best and them sort of players do not come about often.

    +1

Great to see him back playing GAA. Seriously talented young man. Does all the simple things very well. Accurate simple passes, makes it look easy

Thought he was outstanding as well. The emphises on accurate kick passing in aussie rules seems to be really benefiting him. Wasn't sure if it would given that the flight of their ball would be very different.

The big question about Marty is will he stay... There were strong rumours that he would be heading back to Collingwood at the end of the year. Despite having ample opportunity to come out and deny these he didn't..

Also Benny Coulter had a bit of a rant about how Gaelic football has become a poor spectator sport and is not enjoyable to play any more. He was referring to blanket befences in particular and he mentioned that himself and Marty Clarke have had many chats about this ... didn't sound too promising.

Personally I hate seeing the AFL cherry pick the top GAA player. Hopefully Down's fairytale season will cause a change of heart for both Benny and Marty and lead to Marty sticking around.

as a kildare man today i was blown away by clarkes footballing ability including his passing and shooting. this down forwardline is really topclass and they exposed the weaknesses in our backline.the likes of coulter clarke and hughes were getting free of their men and scoring pints from all angles and picking out clever passes. i really hope now that kildare are out that down can push on and beat cork

I hadn't seen alot of Clarke before this year, but on the evidence of recent games and especially today he has the potential to be even better than McDonald. McD had supreme skill but his effectiveness in that playmaker role was always a bit hit and miss. Personally I think he was more effective in earlier years when Mayo played him closer to goal (think of Mayo v Galway 97 as an example)

Clarke today was superb, his distribution, his use of the ball and linking the play together was more what you'd expect from a brilliant soccer midfielder, you don't often see that in a gaelic footballer. MacDonald at his best could do it, Gooch can do it and Padraig Joyce is a master at it. But Clarke has now risen to being one of the very best around.

I really hope he stays, but I think this has all the hall marks of the Tadhg Kennelly situation last year.. If here had no interest in going back he'd have come out and said so rather than dodging the question. I wouldn't be surprised if negotions with Collingwood are going on in the background. Yesterdays performance certainally won't put them off trying to get him back. I hope I am wrong.

To consider him the best he has to produce this form in the final.

I dont buy that at all, players can have off games, doesnt make them less great imo.
Clarke was simply amazing yesterday, he tore my beloved county apart with passing the like i havent seen in many a year.
I think he scored every chance he got except that long range free near the end.
His movement was exceptional and the amount of times he put the ball onto his team mates chest from distance was incredible.
Hes the best all round player this year imo, yeah Brogan is a class act,Johnny Doyle top scorer, all three deserve allstars but for me Clarke would be the first forward in my team every time.
