Ok im 29 and haven't been to the dentist in about 15 years because im afraid of my life of going to one. I actually think i could pass out in the dentists waiting room :o Even hearing someone talk about a dentist makes me feel weak :o Anyway i've been getting a pain in my tooth for the last week on/off. Where's the best dentist(north co dublin or dublin) for someone with as much fear as me? How much is it even to get a tooth out?

As some one who has the very same fear as yourself, I'll tell my story similar had'nt been for 15 years or so, I was adamnt I was not getting a needle or feel any pain.

When I was a nipper I had a dentist hit me accross the head for not opening my mouth, he went to get my mum and I bolted home needless to say the parents said I deserved. Did'nt got back for 10 years and had to get braces the works.

Back to the problem though. So what I did I researced dentists down here and none of them would put you asleep or needle in the arm to knock you out.

So I tried up north and got a reccomendation for the ****no names allowed read the charter**** , explained to them over the phone and emails of my fear so they agreed to see me and recommended that I try the needle couldnt do it so next time they gave me a needle in the arm. Weird thing was they said that it is like rhopinal in that your aware of whats going on just won't remember any of they could tell you to walk around the room and you would do it just not remember. So I went with this option and it is great, except that after it, it feels like the worst hangover. Your fine the next day although they recommend you do not drive or anything like that.

I do go to a dentist down here for cleaning and check ups cleaning is terrible but you do need to do it as you get older.
Any quesitons drop me a pm

Just for the mods I have no affiliation with the clinic just a happy customer

Cheers for that..even the needle bit would make me pass out :( Good to hear other people with the same fear tho. I had a bad experience of nearly choking when younger in the dentists and haven't been back since.

It's grand when the anesthetic works. I went in to get a wisdom tooth extracted recently, here's my brief story

They injected me about 3 times, waited about 5 mins and then went to pull my tooth out. They stopped only when I left a scream out, I told them the pain was unbearable and surely I shouldn't feel anything, they agreed.

They injected me again about another 4 times and I could still feel pain when I bite down on my tooth. They said they would try only one more time as there was too much adrenalin in me, the last injection worked and I felt no pain. They told me that everyone is different and the nerves are hard to find in some people than others.

My problem is I'm booked in next week for a filling and there's no way for me to tell in the anesthetic has worked before they start drilling into my tooth! I'm really not looking forward to it.

There's 2 ways the anesthetic will work, it does or it doesn't.

I was terrifed of going to the dentist but this was because I hadn't been in so long so I was convinced I needed loads of work. Turns out at nearly 28 all I needed was one pinhole filling and a good clean. And theres very little pain in dentisty these days.

The most painful part of the dentist these days is the bill at the end, the anaesthetic works quite well (too well infact, last time I was like a stroke victim for a few hours afterwards).

I was timid about the dentist too, but looking at my uncle who never went in his life and the pain hes going through now (All his teeth pulled, infected gums) I think its the only way to go.

Well how did you get on Donna? Where is this dentist?

I still haven't plucked up the courage to go. Pain on/off for about 2 weeks now. I could live with it as i was taking some panadol(2 a day max) and using mouthwash to numb the pain(dont laugh).

But today i felt a brief 20 seconds of pain that was unbearable :( Hopefully it dont come back cus i dont think any painkillers would cure this pain. Why am i such a wuss :(

Woke up this morning, well dont think i had any sleep really, travelled to the dentist 1hr drive, feeling sick, light headed.
I have been told i had 4 teeth out one of which was a wisdom and 2 fillings, and guess what, have no memory of the procedure what so ever,
arrived at the dentist, dentist reassured me gave me a small injection in my arm, and that is it, honestly easy, really is the way to go.
I realise we cannot give out names of dentist but Hitman or anyone else would like to pm me i can give u details.
My next appointment Monday 9 fillings and guess what no fear, IV IS DEFO THE WAY TO GO
Listen hit man we all fear something, it is nothing to fear honestly i have sent u a pm.
