eBay Return Postage Question

    Hi,

    I recently bought something on eBay (make-up compact, powder/bronzer) and when it arrived to me, it was broken.

    I emailed the seller and they said I could return the item to them for a refund, so I emailed them back and ask if they would cover the cost of return postage and I stated clearly that I would only send by registered post and that on Monday I would go to the post office and get a quote for the price of post.

    I got an email back from the seller today saying they don't usually cover return postage costs, however, to get a post quote from the post office, email them back (the seller) and 'they will see' about covering return postage.

    Can anyone clarify, should it be myself or the seller who should cover return postage? The seller said the item was not broken/damaged when they sent it and in the photos it looked fine/not damaged, but it did arrive to me damaged (which isn't my fault).

    If you dispute it through paypal or ebay the buyer pays return postage, if you can get the seller to offer better than that go for it!

    Also, always send recorded. Items seem to "go missing" when buyers are looking for a refund.

    I will definitely only send by registered post, which I made clear to the buyer.

    If the seller refuses to pay return postage, is there anything I can do? I know about disputes etc.

    It should be the seller that pays for it, but they generally don't, and no one will make them.
