Hop Up To Choose

    Hey All,

    I have 2 aegs.

A King Arms M&P15T which is firing about .97 joules.

A Magpul PTS Masada which is firing about .99 joules.

The masada makes it really simple to swap out the Hop Up rubber, with it's quick release barrel, so I have tried a systema, guarder and the stock rubber to see what works best.

So far the guarder worked the best, the systema sucked.

I am gonna put new rubber into both aeg's and I was looking at:

    1. Guarder Clear
    2. Prometheus Air Seal
    3. Deep Fire

What do you guys think would be the best?

Thanks all, and sorry if this is a bit of a reshash.

Personally I'd stick with the Guarder Clear hopup rubber.

    any particular reason why?

I know alot of people say to go with guarder, just wondering, is it best for range, consistency & accuracy?

ive gone through tons of rubbers looking for the best one and what people have been saying i found the guarder to be the best on all accounts.
cant say i tryed the prometheus tho.
another one i found good was the madbull red with a soft nub but this increased my fps so you might go over the limit.
i found the deepfire one with the three nubs inside not to be of much use as was hard to install right and accuracy was poor.bbs had a tendancy to fly to either side as i couldnt get it centered right.
the firefly is good but very expencive but still doesnt compare to the guarder.
i use the firefly buffer rubber with the guarder and the results are the best ive achieved so far.
at $4 for the guarder you wont go wrong.took two skirmishes for me too see the real benifits so "when" you do install it give it time to bed in.

another thing ive tryed is shaving the nub of a stock hop rubber and using a concave spacer, like the scs,but i feel this would works best for high fps set ups in a cqb enviornment,i.e. great accuracy but not so good range

    Cheers man,
You always hear people going on about the guarder. I tried the guarder in the M&P and it worked well, but I was messing around and borked it, so I have the stock rubber in there at the min.

The masada, doesn't use the nub, because of the quick change barrel set up, the nub is part of the arm on the hop unit. So it's just the rubber you change in that one. That may have been why the systema rubber was so pants in it when I tried it. It is a strange one, the piece in the rubber that actually protrudes into the barrel is not the same as on the other buckings I've seen. Instead of being like a "bubble" or "lump" that protrudes into the barrel, it is a rectangular strip with a split in the middle. I am gonna pop the systema in the M&P to see what it does in that. The M&P is seriously accurate, just as the stock rubber is designed for around 400fps, and obviously it is only firing ~320fps, makes it a little inconsistent, but the bb's fly straight.

But everything I have read around the net seems to indicate, for our FPS limit, that the guarder is your best bet. Though some people seem to go for the guarder black as they reckon it lasts longer. But like you said, for the cost of them you can't go wrong, just buy some spares!

the firefly has that rectangle with the split aswell.
ive also tryed the guarder black which is 70degree and more suitable for a higher fps but everybodys set up is different and can give different results.
theres a 40degree one in that new shop in fairview but i know nothing about it but it might be worth having a look at,harder for higher fps and softer for lower fps and the guarder clear is 50degree so you never know.
but here,i found out you have to give them time to break in to see the effect.changing and then trying out my garden done me no justice.a few thousand rounds have to go through them to get full effect

Yeah you are prob right. I'll probably just pick up some guarder clears and give them a try for a while see how it goes. Cheers.

From what I've seen the range and accuracy from the Fagpul Masada is great stock, Despot's was hitting a A4 size target from 50 metres nicely with his. I've always used Guarder hops with my own or upgrades (unless otherwise asked) as I've found them the best for accuracy and range, especially when coupled with good BB's and a tightbore.

The great thing about Guarder hops is that you can get them cheap, I usually pay less than a fiver for mine when I get them, but it's generally in bulk. Just remember though, a good hop and tightbore barrel is useless unless the barrel is clean and the BB's are good quality. Also, try experimenting with different weights, I've found I've been getting great range and accuracy with 0.25s.

Wow, 50 metres, thats good. I don't think I'm getting that with mine, i would say maybe 40 metres. I must try my .25s in it, don't think I tried them in it.

Having said that, I must actually measure out the distance where I am using for testing the range, could be more.

I always keep the barrel clean, good practice.

So it seems as though the consesus so far is go for guarder. And like you said as stock the masada is great, so it is not like I badly need to do anything to it.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks to all for all the advice.

@Leftyflip. I just measured my test range area in my garden, and it is 190ft, so on realising this, I am actually getting a range of about 160-170ft, as stock. LOL.

I think I will order the guarder clear for it and see how that goes, but have to say with that range I can't imagine getting much more than a few extra feet.

    Cheers again all.

I was looking at them also, but after speaking with a few people and hearing what the guys above had to say, I decided I would just go with the Guarder. Plus the guarder clear are 50 degree.

Could be no harm in trying though, I tried a G&G hop up rubber, think it was 50 degree off the top of my head, and that worked well in my masada but not so well in my King Arms M4.

But for 7 quid, its not much to spend to see if it works well or not. :)

It's mostly just because I can't find the Guarder ones in stock anywhere in Ireland.

I think Shiva from Eirsoft said he would have some in this week or early next week.
