    Yep, always free.

There's a 50% discount on the Avast Internet Security which has silent firewall, sandbox and antispam

Althought avast! 4.8 Home Edition is free version of avast antivirus, You need avast antivirus license key to use this anti virus without limited time, before entered the licence number you can use this antivirus for 60 day period only. You can grab Genuine Licence Key for Avast Antivirus Home Edition for free and this serial number or serial key valid for 1 Year.

This has always been the case, you just reg your email before 60 days and you get a year of the free version. This has always been the way.

You haven't wasted anyones time :), I use avast myself and find it great. The 50% off the full version on the link you posted could be classed as a bargain but i doubt the average user would need it. You'd be surprised by the amount of people paying for ****e such as norton or mcafee when some free alternatives are better.

Can anyone recommend the best pay antivirus software for home user. I am running avast and superantispyware at moment, both free, are they worth upgrading to pay version?

Unfortunately there is no one best av software. It comes down to indivdual taste and preference.

Avast is a fairly good AV software tbh - I really dislike bloatware AV like McAfee VirusScan or Symantec Norton AntiVirus. Avast being free for a home licence just makes it even better!
Remember, if yea use it for business you should support them by buying a licence!

I agree, Avast is a simple to use, no fuss, very effective AV software

Absolutely and I use it myself on my PCs. Before that I went through several others and found them lacking in one or another category.

At work I would favour another product but the OP but this isn't relevant in this thread.

I used to use ZoneAlarm up until about version 8 or so, it then got so bloated (esp when it went from just a firewall to a full suite, and used to slow my machines down), I dumped it and went for Microsoft's Security Essentials (their free home AV) : http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

    Antivirus roundup here: [Link]

    Microsoft Security Essentials
(don't laugh) seems to be a very good free solution.

I find Microsoft Security essentials is much less gaudy than Avast..

As well that "VIRUS DATABASE HAD BEEN UPDATED" voice is well annoying, also the popups look completely thick :)

    Personally I use:

AVG or avast! antivirus (I use AVG on my desktop/main PC but I couldn't get it to install on my laptop so I went with avast! on it, found them to be pretty similar and pretty good)
    Comodo Firewall
    Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
    SuperAntiSpyware

All are free/have free versions and I've never had a problem
