What's your opinion on this film? I think that it's very good, despite all the controversy

It's been years since I've see it, but I thought it was enjoyable.

With your disagreeable avatar and your atheist comedy stylings, I fear that your time on this forum grows short!

I saw this film for the first time in school, in religion class of all places. :pac:

I enjoyed it anyway, I like the focus on Jesus as a normal man, it just leads to more dramatic and relatable viewing. :)

That's not to say that I don't enjoy films where Jesus is portrayed as this uncorruptable divine being, King of Kings FTW. ;)

One of the best Jesus films.
I quite like other movies - Brian Deacon, Max Von Sydow and Robert Powell were the best actors who took on the role.
Jim Caviezal was ok. The Passion Of The Christ was as subtle as a karate kick in the head.
I think an actor like Javier Bardem or Clive Owen or Josh Brolin should play the lead if someone was to make a new movie version. Ridley Scott would be a good choice - he made Gladiator and Kingdom Of Heaven which were outstanding historical epics.

Can't see a new film about Jesus being made anytime soon, it's not the 'in' thing at the moment in Hollywood to present religion in a positive light.

I'm an atheist, grew up a Catholic and I find religion fascinating.
Jesus is an absolutely fascinating figure whether you believe he was God or not.
If I was a movie maker and saw it only from that perspective, the story has everything - great script, great locations, epic drama, supernatural hocus pocus, good verses evil, an evil king, political corruption, betrayl, tragedy violence, sex - Salome, Mary Magdalene and sexual tension between Jesus and the women who follow him everywhere, comedy and sentimentality.

Strange you should ask that. Was just thinking about that flick today. Seen it years ago when I was a very young Christian but knew very little about the faith and thought it was brilliant. Seen it about a year ago and thought it stunk to hight heaven. Terrible dialog an misrepresentation of the characters not just Jesus but John the Baptist, Paul and Judas however, they got Satan spot on. But one must appreciate that it was based on a novel and that the makers took extreme artistic license. Glad I seen it when I did first time though. Really enjoyed it... :pac:

I think Hollywood sat up and took notice when Mel Gibson's Passion Of The Christ raked in hundreds of millions. The problem for Hollywood is figuring out how to cash in on the huge religious market that is there. Films like The Blind Side, which won Sandra Bullock her Oscar, have a big Christian theme and become so successful because they run for long periods of time in Southern parts of America, or those Evangelical parts of America, for lack of a better phrase. They know there is a lot of money to be made, but they need to be smart about it. Movies about Christ's life and death have been made, why make it again when it has already been done from every angle, and very well done by Scorcese and Gibson. You'll find more movies coming out with strong Christian themes, I think. So it's not that religion isn't popular at the moment, I would argue the opposite. It's huge, and Hollywood are just taking a different approach than you'd expect.

No religious movie has come close since Almost an Angel.
