    hi all,
Hopefully I am posting in the right forum. I am living in cork city and I think we have bed bugs in our apartment. I plan on tackling the problem today steam cleaning etc. Does anyone know where I could get some bug spray to kill the bugs? What shops would stock these sprays? Could anyone recommend some brandnames? Ideally I would like to find a shop in cork city and one that is open today (Sunday). Any other advice would be appreciated too. Thanks!

    God, sorry about that OP.

My friend had them in her house (a lodger brought them back in a suitcase from another country so the Professional guys said) and they had to throw out all the beds and carpets as seemingly the eggs or whatever are all meshed into the fabrics of the beds/mattresses and carpets...

They had to get professionals in to spray the place as well after they skipped everything :( I'm not sure if that's the norm though.

My buddy moved in to a place and his bed had them. They had to get a new bed in the end as they are tougher mofos to kill than cockroaches in a nuclear holocaust.

these guys are hard to kill (they can live for over a year without feeding, they breed a lot, if you're in an apartment building they can just crawl to the next flat and wait for you to stop the bug spraying), so you really need to get the pros in to do it. They know where to look for them for a start, cos they can hide pretty good. They'll have to spray the place and you'll have to be out for pretty much the whole day while they do it. (they may have to spray more than once too to get the next batch who hatch)

trust me, dont waste time trying to do it yourself.

How did you know you have them OP? I'm being getting bites from something right now-been to a chemist and he suggested dust mites but I'm worried it might be something in our bed (thought my OH seems to be unaffected)
And for that matter does anyone know how to get rid of dust mites??

You need the professionals OP. I got rentokill in and had to get them back a second time - persistent f**kers. No way would I try it on my own. I think the culprit was a suitcase under the bed, that's something I'll never do again!

dan-d: When my gaff had them, I got raised red lumps on exposed parts of my body - legs and arms. Not really itchy, but bad looking.

You're thinking of dust mites. Bed bugs bite and live off blood.

Well that's the thing, the house is very clean. As are we! Everything is washed regularly, dusted, hoovered etc. I got the impression today that you can't really get rid of them - and here, take anti-histamines to relieve the itching!!

Fair enough, what I have is extremely itchy but barely visible on the skin and not necessarily in exposed areas only, so I'll go with pharmacists suggestion of dust mites. Plus since my OH is apparently totally unaffected..!!

    thanks guys.

If you're not sure if they're bed bugs, have a look around the edges of the matress in any creases and in any cracks in the bedframe, this is where they usually hide AFAIK.

I think dust mites are pretty much impossible to avoid no matter how much you clean.

I think I'm just going to go to the doctor and ask him what he thinks they are...the bites are wrecking my head and the tablets don't seem to be working. If they are something that needs to be exterminated by professionals, I'd rather know now.

What's really annoying is the fact that my OH is totally unaffected, yet I'm becoming more paranoid by the day...

You need someone to spray the place asap.

Go to act 2 and it tells you what they went through to get rid of them. They sound awful.
