Record what you hear - Vista - TonePort

Hoping somebody might be able to help me with this. Bought a TonePort UX2 a while back second hand off a boards user and while the device works fine it only seems to record the signal dry. So I did a bit of digging about and the only solution seems to be to upgrade to the newer tone software which you can use as a DX plugin but it costs $50.

So I figured I'd solve that by just going the record what you hear option only to find it seems to be absent in Vista. I've spent the last few weeks looking for a solution without any luck. Most suggest that you can re enable it under sound properties but it doesn't bring any other devices up for me when i select show disabled.

    Any suggestions?

Doesn't appear to be a Line 6 issue but rather a windows issue.

A road I'd rather not have to take but will eventually if I have no other option.

Still talk to them - it's in their interest their customers can use their gear.

Very true, it's looking more likely I'll have to.

    Thanks.

Hey man, I take it you are using the gearbox to provide the effects? If so, they create virtual tracks in the DAW. They are the ones you need to record. Not the track that you have input the source to. What are you using to record it?

What I understand gearbox to do is read the signal from say input 1, it adds the effects etc. and then routes it to virtual channel (say 3).

I think a better option is to add the gearbox application as a vst plugin. You can record it dry and then add effects with that later on in the process. I hope this helps.

Have you installed Gearbox via LineMonkey?

You'll need to launch Gearbox before you launch your DAW.

That is unless you've also received PODFarm.... You can use PODfarm as a VST effect unit..

When you bought it second hand, were you given the registration details for the UX2?

This is going to be needed for the software I've mentioned above.

Other wise, the reason why it'll cost you $50 is because you don't actually have a lisence for the software...

Cheers lads for the help, what you said TheBigRedDog made total sense but I ended up just buying PodFarm off the site and it seems to have sorted the dry signal problem. Have to admit, an incredible piece of software as well. Quality of the tones are astounding.

Doesn't solve my record what you hear issue but I can come back to that at future date as I've no major need for it right now. :)
