i want to get a mp3 player but primarily for the radio but i want to use my own ear phones as afaik most mp3 players you need to use their own earphones as they contain the transmitter.
Ive seen a few different players with the radio feature but its proving hard to see if you need the earphones or not to listen to it!
anyone know which ones dont need them?

I don't think the earphones contain a transmitter, I'm pretty sure that they use the earphone cable as an aerial.

    ^^^This.

Earphones only act as an antenna.

Most mp3 players have built in radios so you've a decent selection at least.

sorry i'm not great at terminology transmitter/aerial etc.

so does that mean any mp3 player that advertises as having radio i can use with any ear/headphones?
I have had radio on my last two phones for example but it doesnt work unless i use the earphones that came with it!

By any chance do the last two phones you've had require a special connector to enable radio, ie not a standard 3.5mm jack?
