I have the full sky package but was thinking of getting sky plus.

Sky has quoted me a price of €159 which includes installation but I already have the tw0 leads coming from the disc in to where I want to put the sky plus box.

If I buy a sky plus box seperately (ebay) is it easy to install it and do I have to notify sky

Because you must pay for the service, yes you must notify sky. AFAIK the sky plus won't work without an active sky plus card. As for installation theres nothing to it as long as the wires are there. €159 seems very steep, most people get it done free on first installation.

As he's on the full package he won't have to pay for + functionality. He does need to make them aware though

you can pick up a + or HD box on fleabay, and just ring sky to activate the record functions. there is NO extra cost for it.

Madness buying a second hand box...Skyplus boxes are now no longer been issued, you would get a sky hd box without the hd mix. Hd box has a much bigger drive and so is a better buy.

So your 2 options would be

If you take the Hd mix which will increase your bill by €15 then you would get the box for €30...that includes the install..

Without the HD mix it costs €159. This fee is for the install so I would suggest getting 2 wires ran to another room instead of the room you intend using it. Afterwards simply switch the box to the room you really want it in and put your old box in the second room to use for the fta channels and So you would be getting your value for money then...

I wouldnt buy a second hand box, alot of these are old models or refurbished. A friend of mine bought one 2 weeks ago despite my warnings. It was a Pace model and when he got it the Hdmi port was broken...silly boy.

Just threaten to cancel your sub with SKY.

I did it last year and after 20 minutes on the phone, I got a New Dish, Quad lnb, Sky+ box and installation for €50.
