OK so I'm a sys admin but spend more time up to my elbows in servers these days so not up to speed on laptop specs - normally we're given a budget for a lapper and we ask our sales guy in dell etc for the best deal then haggle him down :pac:

My budget for this would be around 1k but hopefully less - I'm not sure if I need an official 'gaming laptop' since all I'll be playing is the Sims3 and just surfing and downloading bits and pieces the rest of the time :pac:

Screen size say 13-17 inch and if possible the same if not better spec than my current desktop:
    - AMD Phenom II X4 '920' 4x 2.80GHz Quad Core So.AM2+ | 6MB L3 Cache | 125W | 64bit .
    - ATI Radeon HD 4890 1GB GDDR5
    - 4GB RAM DDR2 1066Mhz Kingston

    Any suggestions?

Well for the needs you mentioned then you should be able to pick up a laptop for 700 and below....as for which laptop....take your pick really. Do you have a brand in mind?

Basically for your needs I would recommend getting any laptop with an intel i3 processor or higher and 4gb of RAM. Dont worry about the graphics card if all you'll be playing is sims 3.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks! I know it's a noob question and the game is questionable lol! :pac: I'm not sure which brand to go for yet. From IBM/Lenovos seem to last forever and their support is pretty good from dealing with them for server stuff, Toshibas are crap and Dell are questionable and don't seem to last.. thou I got a Vostro 1220 for my new work laptop a few months ago and I'm starting to warm to Dell again.

I dont know where you got that idea about Toshibas....they are some of the best built machines around....perhaps you had a bad experience once?

Any ones we had from work always seemed to have problems - backlights going, drives failing etc.
