Need help and suggestions with only 3k to spend!

Ok so I'm looking for a car that's going to get me from Shannon to Dublin twice weekly as I'm moving up to college there!

Obviously being a student means my budget is fairly tight, only €3000 to spend on a car. I've been looking for weeks now but at a loss as to what's the best value for money and I need the car to last four years at least!

Also nothing with an engine bigger than a 1.5?!

Generally I've been looking at Golfs' and Focus' but for that money the mileage is quite high.

So I'd be grateful and I'm open to suggestions on where or what I should be looking at!

Could you stretch to a 1.6 if cost half of your budget? It'd be older than that Almera but would be a pimpmobile in comparison, You could use the money you save on purchase to put towards your insurance or sorting out any niggles.

diesel all the way, anything from vag group. just make sure the tbelt is done. check out the bangernomics thread for good value motoring, couple of good diesels in there as well.

So it does, must only be sold recently as I've been eyeing up the add for the last few days... Fairly annoying when people do that.

Sold the sister's car recently through donedeal. Had the car sold and updated the ad with "sold" but it was at least 24 hours before the advertert displayed sold.. Was still getting calls about the car.

OP, whatever you do, don't get the train !



I've done that trip a few times in the girfriends 1.25 Fiesta and it handles it very well. It's fairly comfortable, enough power for the job and pretty light on fuel.
