    Hi folks,

I'm looking for an L85 A2 and am considering the Star L85 A2 model and have some questions:

    1. Any reason to steer clear of it?
    2. I see it has a plastic gearbox - is this a cause for concern?
    3. The carbine version seems to sell in most places for around $100 less than the full version, except on ehobby (linky) - anything dodgy about this???

    Thanks in advance!

1: Yes, afaik Star guns are made by Ares who have really poor quality control
    2: Yes
3: It's mechanically identical to the other one with the same body, it just has a shorter barrel

You need to get up pretty early in the morning to catch one in stock but I'd look into the G&G model if I were you.

    Interesting!

That's more along the lines of what I wanted to hear :-)

I believe the Star comes in a nice fancy case too! :-)

the older runes used to come in some nice cases but this is not the case anymore all you get know is a cardboard box, unless of course you can find some of this older models, then again i would rather go with the newer version and the upgraded internals

    +1

Tony in Eirsoft can get the ARES one through the partner products scheme

Thanks Puding - how do I recognise the newer version? Is this the Ares one you're referriing to, or is there a newer version Star L85 with upgraded internals?

you would have to pick up he ares for the metal gearbox http://www.fire-support.co.uk/product/ares-l85a2-sa80-new-version-with-metal-gearbox

another option to consider is the excellent ICS l85 http://www.fire-support.co.uk/product/ics-l85-a2-assault-rifle-aeg-airsoft-gun

The Star L85 A2 is an excellent gun.
Had mine for two and a half years with no issues at all.
Only fitted a madbull tightbore and Guarder clear hop rubber and that was all.
    Totally reliable.

The gearbox shell is indeed made of plastic, but never caused me any problems. It was a pleasure to use and one of the guns I regret parting with.
