hey everyone, got my orientation pack the other day, just wondering something...

I got two forms for subject choices, one for history and political science and one for that medieval history thingy... I'm not doing those courses, no problem i can just ignore them.

I'm doing european studies though, and i was just wondering when/how/if i am supposed to choose my languages? The two forms i did get sounded fairly urgent so I can't help but feel I should be doing something about it :)

    thanks for any help

Did you receive any forms at all regarding language choice?

I'm not in European Studies, but I do study in the French department, and I've found that the best thing to do in these situations (language departments can have the tendency to be on the dis-organized side) is to contact them directly.

Details for the European Studies co-ordinator are here: http://www.tcd.ie/European_Studies/contact/

In the meantime, I know a couple of people in ES, so I may be able to contact them and see how language choice works. Watch this space!

Make sure you got your latex glove. You won't be able to get through 4 years of undergraduate life without one.

    Dial 646 8431 ASAP.

As soon as TCD gets notification of your acceptance (i.e after Monday) they will write to you setting out the language combinations you are eligible for and then you will be asked to email your choice back.

So don't panic.....you will get a letter next week.

ah right thats ok then. Thanks!

I got that letter this morning, but it said to indicate my choices on the letter itself (it listed my options, one of which I just circled), and to just send back the original letter. I presume that's all I need to do, and I don't have to email them as well?

Yes, thats all you have to do.

Just on the orientation pack (I have no. 2), are there any forms I have to send into Trinity before I go in to register during freshers week? (like FRS1 fee form etc?)

Yes, you'll need to send back the FRS1 so they can issue the correct giro to you (if they haven't done so already, can't quite remember how it works >.<, but I think that's right). If you are eligible for free fees, you'll then get a giro for €1585. If not (e.g. if you're a non-EU student, have previous third-level education etc), then you'll get a giro for that + whatever your course fees would be.

What's the story with this? I got one last year but what about this year? Will I have to close this account and open a new one for my free travel card??

Won't work, it's only for first year students who open an account within a specified time frame so once off offer

Don't know why, under the terms and conditions of the voucher it states:
To avail of the offer you must be a first year third level student and open an AIB Student Plus Account between the 19th May - 29th October 2010 inclusive. Only one Student Travelcard voucher will be issued per AIB Student Plus Account opened. No other cash or alternative offer is available. Vouchers must be redeemed by 30th November 2010
