ATI 5145 has better performance.

Nvidia 310 should have slightly lower power consumption and heat output.

Both cards can occassionally feature lower performance DDR3 memory (instead of GDDR3), depending on how scabby the laptop manufacturer is. This would affect the comparison, however you'd have to do some decent googling to find out if this is the case with the laptops you are looking at.

They are both low-end (as far as discrete graphics cards go). Don't expect high performance.
