    Hi there,
I'm in first year arts and chose Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science and Geography. I intend on dropping the last two and transferring over to second year maths science and doing maths (Getting above 55% average) and applied maths.
Has anyone done this and who should I best get in contact with? Tom Carroll has been great with this sort of stuff but this sort of thing is not what I would say he usually deals with!
    Thanks!

    Hi,

The first thing you should do is contact Teresa Buckley ( t.buckley.ucc.ie) She's the administrator for Maths Science and she'll be able to tell you all the requirements and whether it can be done or not!

I'm not too sure what UCCs practice is for inter faculty changes. I know you can change within faculties but never heard of anyone been able to switch from arts to science.

I'd say go to the Records & Examinations Office. Their website is here. They'll point you in the right direction if it's not the right place to go. (Taken directly from what I said on another thread :P)

The only thing is, you won't have done any statistics, and you have to do that in Second year, so you could be a bit behind. From the Book of Modules:
Pre-requisite(s): ST1051 or permission of lecturer, MA1003 or equivalent

So I'd imagine you'd be allowed.

A few months ago I thought I wanted to transfer so I checked it up a bit, and I read somewhere that the entry requirements for the course have to be met, so you'd need to have the required points from your Leaving Cert to get into the course.

But get in touch with the Records Office anyway.

    Thanks for the reply guys.
I was told by Tom Carroll and Des McHale to repeat the linear and abstract exams in Autumn because I would need 55% average (165/300) but I only got 161/300 in the Summer and I did these tests last Thursday and Friday to try get over 55%.
I E-mailed Tom Carroll to see when I would be getting the results because they were not official 'tests'. I will wait for his reply and if that does not work out I will e-mail both Teresa Buckley and the Exams records office....I'm just unsure if there is some sort of deadline for a transfer notice!
    Thanks!
