    Hi,
I would like to study Russian in TCD starting in 2011. I would be interested in hearing opinions about the course/department from those who have done/are doing this course.

    Thanks.

    Hey.

I do Business with Russian. I love it to be quite honest! The department staff are very nice and always on hand to help out. The Language itself is quite tough but once u work hard u'll be fine.

i don't know what else to say really but if u have any more questions feel free to ask.

Hey , I'm starting Business with Spanish and I noticed that in the orientation pack all the Business + a language students have the same timetable for course meetings/registration etc...

For the Business classes are we mixed in with the bess students or the "business +polish/russian/spanish etc.... students?

I've never done a business subject before! Do you think I will find it difficult or will I just have to put in a bit more work?

For the business classes we're mixed with BESS, Business and Computing, BSL people etc. so the lectures are always pretty big.

For Economic policy we're mixed with Sociology students, Economic students etc. but not BESS. Again these lectures are pretty big.

Maths and Stats is the same as Business.

Well no i don't think you'll struggle at all. In Introduction to Organisation and Management, the course is nothing like that of the LC Business course. It is all based around readings and extracting theories from these readings. Once you keep up and make good notes you should be fine.

Economic Policy is similar to Economics at LC, even a little easier imo, so it's not too difficult. I did Economics in school so maybe it was just easier for me as it mostly the same stuff. However i know people who didn't and they found it slightly harder than me but managed to pass. So again just work at it and you shud be fine ;) !

Maths and Stats, well I think most people struggle with this (there are 102 people repeating on Tuesday, I'm one of them :( ). the main thing is to keep up from the start. However this is easier said then done with all the parties and stuff you'll be going to :D . But seriously try to keep up as repeating is REALLy not fun at all!

So to sum up, I don't think you'll struggle. The Business, stats and Economic policy courses are designed for beginners, however Maths isn't.

Good luck for the year anyway. Feel free to ask any more questions.
