Is it possible for a line of traffic to be held up indefinitely??

The line just keeps going on and on and on, everyone is stuck in a kind of traffic hell, maybe it's where bad drivers go when they die. Or do you know of any place where it's impossible or considered "not safe" to come out of anymore, as traffic and speed increases all the time? What about where it's unsafe or almost…

What about where it's unsafe or almost impossible to turn right but possible to turn left? (as obviously turning left coming out of a junction is a lot easier than turning right).
