Black Hair Care

First, like I have stated in other sections of the board, I am a multi-racial person who identifies primarily with my Native and Black American roots. I inherited very thick and coarse hair that needs to be chemically straightened every 4-6 weeks or weekly straightened by heat. I admit to being relatively ignorant on how diverse Dublin is, but I will be studying there this upcoming academic year.

Is anyone familiar with an ethnic hair beauty salon?

    Thanks!

I'd say Moore St. would be the best place to go, they have a lot of salons that advertise specifically towards Afro-Caribbean hair. They would probably know how to do it properly or know a place that would.

    Here's a map:

They've destroyed my hair in 3 seperate places on Moore Street. They're good for braiding and wigs, but for the love of god, don't get your hair straightened there.

So, where should I go? Would I have to go to London to get it done properly or resign myself to having my hair braided?

When I couldn't find anyone I trusted to do it for me, I started going to Pacific Hair artists in London. Not inexpensive, but great results. I later got the number of a guy in Peter Marks in dun laoighre who wanted to start realxing afro hair (they had just begun treating european hair), but at that stage I'd made the decision to go for a weave so I never contacted him.

    Peter Mark- (I think) 01-2843349
    Pacific Hair artists- 0044 207 242 8144

Do NOT go ANYWHERE near Moore street to Relax your hair, they just use the cheap at home relaxer kits and it completely destroys your hair.
As Rip It Up says go to Pacific Hair artists in London, they're the best.

They're going to start relaxing hair in Peter Marks in Dun Laoghaire?!:eek:
I need to check that one out...

Dang. I guess I will just rely on flat ironing my hair.

If you dont have money to keep going over to the uk you know what you could do? You can buy Motions hair relaxer, I often buy that in the states and bring it over here so I can relax my hair myself. Do you know how to relax your hair yourself? Motions works as well as the salon hair relaxers.

Heres a vid of someone applying it if you dont know how to do it:

You could buy those individual boxes or you can buy a big tub for like 20 dollars in any beauty store like I do.. I would advise you getting the boxes of motions though as they the big tubs dont come with any of the little extra things the boxes do.
PM me if you need anymore info :)
