i found an answer online to this question

The answer is NO. The Dell Inspiron 1501 does not have the proper graphics card and software to display out to a TV without that extra conversion kit. It needs the more expensive cable, because the graphics card on that laptop wasn't made to go out a tv and doesn't support it

just wondering if this is true that the 1501 cannot be connected to a tv??

i have an external hardrive with alot of movies on it, i would prefer to watch them on a tv rather than on my laptop, ive seen dvd players with usb ports but i dont have one, is there any other way of watching them??

if you have a flat panel it should have a vga connector.

Use a vga cable to connect them up and it will work fine with avi movies.

Full hd will prob not work to well mind ;-)
