Just wondering is anyone using software that can be downloaded for free that will convert drawing tabs in .dwg files to PDF? I was using PDF writer pro when working in the office but dont have it on my home pc, havent really got the spare cash to buy software so if anyone is aware of any freebies could they point me in the right direction?

    Cheers

    We use CutePDF.
It's free and does the job. It installs as a plotter so you can use it for other documents aswell.

    Jimbo,
Thats a great package. As above, the same as Primo, the one that I used in work also, basically. Have downloaded it to laptop, works fine. On desktop I have the archaic PDF Mailer, with awful ticker belt to top.
Silly question time :o Can I save this one on disk and transfer to desktop?

Adobes autocad reader, dwg trueview seems to have an export function. Its also massively handy if you have cad drawings for your house, but not a couple of k for a proper copy of autocad for measurements etc.

but you can set the drawing to be plotted in pdf format using cad. I can't 100% remember, but you go to the plotter manager, create a new plotter, go through the steps, select the plotter output as a PDF. (there is a couple of steps but i cant remember off hand) It is how we were shown in college. Its stops the line weights getting messed up. Plus once you have it set up right its as simple as printing. hope that helps

I think you are getting mixec up between two different things,

You can set a plotter to plot to a file, this is so you can send it to somebody to print, without them need the same program or settings as you. Although the wide spread popularity of Acrobat makes this redundant now.

So can also set up a PDF program as a printer, cutePDF and Acrobat are two of the more popular ones. Sometimes a PDF printer is included with autocad so there is no need to install another

..I use Primo pdf, and it works well for me.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
