i just noticed it is only 6 services a day 8,10,12am and 2,4,8pm, the way it is advertised you would think it was all coaches going to galway. a big fuss over knocking 20minutes maybe off journey times but if they had cut the airport out of the route it would really have been an express service dublin to galway! i have not used it yet but plan to during the week so will update then.

Given that Citylink and Gobus already have licences from Galway to Dublin I think that Bus Eireann's only option was to go for the fastest service to/from Dublin Airport.

Folks it was a thing I moaned about and finally Bus Eireann started to make better use of the buses they had. They had too much capacity in a tightly fought market. There should be more services running from the Airport as is in other major cities like Edinburgh/Glasgow/Cardiff similar in size to Dublin.

Ok so bus eireann run their express services through the airport greatly inconveniencing passengers most of whom want to go direct to Dublin city centre. And passengers for galway have to go through the airport to pander to a very few that might use the service?

Has anyone got numbers for passengers picked up or dropped at Dublin airport from the x20?

Do you ever stop complaining about things and making posts that are completely over the top exaggerations? Frankly it is getting to be ridiculous.

What "great inconvenience" is there? There was massive overcapacity on the route. If people still want to go to the city direct and can't wait an extra hour they can use Citylink. Bus Eireann still have a service to Dublin directly every two hours.

Bus Eireann are using the buses in a way that is far more sensible and can generate additional revenue.

You can't assess a new service after a couple of weeks as being a success or not in terms of numbers. For goodness sake be realistic.

the airport is serviced well enough from busaras by several different busses and from the city by all the 41's and several other busses so there is no need for bus eireann to add half an hour to their "express bus" travel times by diverting way off course into the airport!

do they use the toll bridge? this is only going to add to the loss they make every year!

I need to be in Galway city at 9.30am tomorrow morning. I'm in Dublin and have checked Go Bus, citylink and Bus Eireann and none can offer that service. Now theres a niche in the market. Anyone needing to be in Galway for a 9.30am meeting cannot (as far as I can see from the website timetables anyway)
Any suggestions? I was going to try and do my bit for the environment by leaving the car in Dublin, it hardly seems worth it bringing it down for a few hours. Train is a no-go either.

    Any suggestions warmly received :o;):o

A good point too,but one which screams at the Minister for Transport to immediately give ALL Public Transport Free-Use of all Toll Facilities, present and future.

One of the major issues in my mind is the glaring Conflict-of-Interest between the Minister for Transport`s remit regarding Public Transport and his rather too-close relationships regarding Toll Collection franchises !

As this country collapses further we can expect Private Motoring to become significantly more expensive, both to enter and to maintain usage of.
Thus if we had any vestige of forward sightedness we would be seeing vastly improved and affordable Public Transport alternatives rather than the serious cutbacks just over the horizon.

In terms of the post-Deloitte situation for the CIE Bus Companies it`s now becoming apparent that we have some serious difficulties, not all of which will be easily solved.

One can expect some fairly surprising announcements in the near future which may give an indication of the impasse we currently face !

Rustyf81,at the risk of being attacked,Aer Arann flight RE231 departs Dublin 0840 and scheduled in Galway at 0925...you might have a bit of leeway there...however the one-way fare of €47 is a bit of a shocker

Thanks for that. Galway Airport a good spin from the city unfortunatly, so wouldn't make it in on time.:(
Is it alot to ask for a bus to arrive at 9.30?! It only means leaving Dub at 7.00am. I think they offer the service the other way so why not this :confused::confused:

Major hubs such as Galway should have been on a 24 Hour Timetable for decades now.

However we have not had anything like the Governance of our European partners so therefore we basked in our "Difference" ....

there is a citylink non stop leaving dublin at 5.45am getting into galway at 8.15am

and related to thread, citylink travel direct to dublin city first then on to the airport like all other private operators (except those coming in from the direction of the airport) unlike bus eireann who feel the airport is more important than dublin city!

You are missing the point for about the umpteenth time.

Dublin/Galway has TOO MUCH capacity. There are more than enough buses on it.

Bus Eireann are now creating a direct route from Galway and the other stops to Dublin Airport where they view that there is a market for additional customers.

i am not missing the point, i am saying that a direct link to the airport from galway which has its own airport is not required! especially when it is wrongfully advertised as a non-stop/express service to Dublin!

both gobus and citylink go direct to the airport via the city centre so why cant the national carrier? this service has been on for a couple of weeks so how many people are getting on/off in the airport? are bus eireann going to release figures?

If the current 0615 Heuston-Portlaoise turned right at Portarlington at 0710 and belted on for Galway that mightn't hurt either. (And yes, I know the 0615 probably goes back into town, just saying...)

The law doesn't give any preference to BE over private operators - they are all allowed to apply for exclusive licenses and are supposed to be afforded equal rights.

so bus eireann could easily go direct to Dublin with their x20 service but they chose to divert to the airport instead for a couple of passengers a day?

imagine if their x51 service diverted out to claregalway on the way into or from Galway. it just makes the improvement absolutely useless especially considering how well served the airport already is from the city centre!

    Table No. Route
    1 Dublin - Airport - Drogheda - Dundalk - Newry - Belfast and return
    2 Airport – Dublin – Arklow – Gorey – Enniscorthy – Wexford – Rosslare Harbour and return
20 Dublin - Dublin Airport - Athlone - Ballinasloe - Galway and return
    22 Dublin – Airport – Mullingar – Longford – Ballina and return
    23 Dublin – Airport – Mullingar – Longford – Sligo and return
30 Dublin - Airport - Cavan - Enniskillen - Donegal Town - West Donegal and return
32 Dublin - Dublin Airport - Monaghan - Letterkenny and return
33 Dublin - Dublin Airport - Monaghan - Omagh - Derry and return
100X Wilton Terrace – City Centre – Airport – Drogheda – Dundalk and return
101 Dublin - Airport - Balbriggan - Drogheda and return
    109A D.C.U. - Airport - Ratoath - Dunshaughlin - Navan
    133 Dublin Airport – Dublin – Ashford – Wicklow
    177 Dublin - Airport - Ashbourne - Ardee - Monaghan - Clones and return
and this does not show the many 747 busses or the numerous other dublin bus routes serving the airport.

Well if it is direct to the airport and you were flying from Dublin then it makes good sense considering the €15.60 toll charge return from Galway to Dublin Airport, add parking charges for any few days and the bus makes alot of commercial sense.
