I'm hugely looking forward to this. John Carpenter is my second favourite film director, reguardless of his mixed oeuvre. The Horrorthon are screening this at the IFI this Friday at 11.15pm. I'll definately be there! :D

Impressions from that are: Carrie + The Ring + Shutter Island.

Also it's a 'not sure if serious' trailer. As in, why would you get a load of eye candy in a film that you'd want the audience to take seriously for the horror genre? In my opinion when you introduce the hot ladies you just get the "she's next" vibe.

Don't get me wrong I'll still go as it looks like it has a few more tricks up its sleeve. Oh Carpenter you scoundrel you!

Clearly not a lot of Carpenter fans around seeing as this is such a short thread...

Anyways caught a viewing of this today in Cineworld. And it was exactly what I expected. One word...generic.
No real surprises, victims were clocked off one by one and predictably so. A few "jumpy" bits, mirror gags etc but overall no real point that made me think Carpenter is back. It didnt have the fun of BTILC, the suspense claustrophobia of Halloween or even the acting props of The Thing. The "tottie" as another poster called them, were barely managing the script as was and to be honest there wasnt enough done with the setting of the mental ward.
Frankly it was boring, predictable and indistinguishable from the hundred other movies of similar genre.

Makes me sad coz I'm a big Carpenter fan. Also...I miss Dean Cundey :(

I saw it last week, but I'm alot more forgiving than you Skinfull. I completely agree with you on Dean Cundey, he'd have given the lighting and camerawork much more panache, sadly he's too expensive these days methinks.

As for the film itself, I enjoyed it, especially the music which added to the atmosphere. I liked the build-up of tension, but the pay-off's were bloody awful and very lazy.

    The ending seems to copy
    'Identity'
verbantim, but I think it was better handled here. Overall, I thought it was Carpenters best work since 'Prince of Darkness,' 'They Live,' that is, if you don't count the vastly superior 'Cigarette Burns'. 6/10

Trailer looks poor. Like a cross between The Jacket (which was underrated imo ) but with too much I Know What You Did Last Summer thrown in . Too much totty=less credibility.:(
