Hearing a rumour that someone (fair play to him) off a HC of 6 had 9 birdies in the 1st 9 holes  at Cork Golf Club at a recent open singles. ONLY one more bird on the back nine ! He had 52 pts altogether. Again, major congrats (to who ever you are) ;)
mmmmmmmmm............has anyone ever done the full 18 birdies ?? (/goes off googlin)

Would 52 points off 6 not be the equivelent of shooting 10 under par gross? Did he get a couple of eagles too? Either way seven birdies in a round is fantastic shooting. Best i ever did was four.

You need to learn how to read

That is truly impressive - such consistency.

I know this isn't nearly as impressive but a juvenile at my club recently played in some competition and started 1, 2 on the first two holes! Theyre both par 3's but its still an impressive thing to be able to say. He shot 9 over though :(

Still, I'd love to see his handicap sheet the last year or two, and scorecards. It's an incredible achievement, I doubt many professional golfers have ever done it.

Holy fck, that's incredible if true.

I had 7 birdies in nine holes when I was younger* and thought I was the greatest player alive.

    *playing pitch and putt :pac:

One of the lads in our club shot a level par round, 18 pars. I like the sound of that, it's a pretty cool round. My best was +1, 3 birdies, 4 bogeys. I'd love to shoot under par some day, if I do and subsequently I shoot 17 pars on first 17 holes and have a putt for birdie, I might be tempted to miss it and go for par. I know it sounds ridiculous, but there is something classy about 18 pars. Anyone ever done that?

Did you have a double bogey too?

Nothing remotely impressive playing golf but during my time playing pitch & putt I had:

    - A round of 18 pars
    - A round that went: first 8 holes - 4 birdies & 4 bogeys, first par on ninth = level at the turn. 7 birdies, a par and a hole-in-one on the back nine to go round in 18 shots. I actually won the gross prize that day on the back 9!:D
    - 14 birdies in 17 holes (missed a 4-footer for -15 and the coveted 39 on the last :( )
    - Two consecutive hole-in-ones on the same hole, hit first one, someone picked the ball out of the hole and knocked it back to me, I put it back on the tee which was still in the matt and hit it in again for another 'oner'

[/boasting to strangers on internet cos the missus doesn't understand]

Sorry, corrected my initial post, had 4 bogeys, 3 birdies, hence the edit comment: duh!! Finished birdie par on the two most difficult holes on the course, was chuffed. Equally chuffed to lose 2 shots. A year on and I have only played to the new hcap twice.

I've heard that the recent winner of a singles comp in Cork golf club playing of 6 scored 52 points and started birdie, eagle, birdie, birdie, birdie, eagle......

We may be thinking of the same guy................

Weird world you live in, a birdie is hardly a blemish...

Is there a limit to the number of shots you can be cut in 1 comp?

Cause if I repeat that feat I'll lose 4.8 shots...

Best I saw was a scratch golfer I played with had 10 birdies in a sunday fourball.

My brother off 3 also had 36 points with 9 points on the front and 27 on the back

best i ever seen was Rory Leonard is the senior interpros few weeks back. he won his singles on the 11th after 8 birdies.
Not much for me to boast about except doing bird, eagle, bird once. still only managed 32 points that day:D

As an unhandicapped cack-handed 20 year old "golfer", playing at the time to roughly somewhere in the region of 20-22 handicap, out of nowhere one day i parred the first ten holes in a row in waterrock in midleton in cork. Couple of great scrambles to save pars at 8 and 9, but then it fell apart

Finished double, triple, bogey, bogey, par, double, par, bogey for a gut wrenching 81.

Tried to hang on for a sub 80 round but no luck

My best round was playing Swords Open course, 6 over par playing off 18.

Think I got 48pts, but I swear I missed some 3 footers that day too!!
