Cancelling Sky subscription

    Advice needed!!

I just called sky to cancel my subscription as we are moving abroad, I was informed that I would have to pay my next bill, due to come out of my account on the 15th Sept and I would also have to pay a month’s cancellation notice as their new terms and conditions are 31 days notice of cancellation, but that they would refund that amount to me.

Firstly I pay a month in advance as do all sky customers and as I am cancelling in august I have already paid for my august viewing, and secondly can they legally enforce new terms and conditions without the bill payer agreeing to them?

They said if my bill was not paid my debt would be referred to a collection agency.

Does anyone know if this will happen or have any experience with this?

Oh and when I rang to cancel they said they would reduce my current package to half price! Pity they don’t offer all current customers these deals!! :D

You have always had to give 30 days notice of cancellation ,that is nothing new.
The new rules relate to giving 30 days notice when downgrading a package ,before you could downgrade instantaneously.
There is nothing you can do .

Ring them back and get someone more helpful in cs-there is a 30 day notice period of cancellation but seeing as your next bill isn't due for 3 weeks I can't see how they are going to bill you again then.
If you're moving to somewhere in Europe why not bring the skybox with you and continue using it.

Not 100% correct. The 30 day rule became effective here on 1st April afaik.

The 30day notice period has been in play all the time, its hasnt been introduced since the 1st April.

All service providers do exactly the same such as UPC..

Again not 100% true. I rang last January & was told I could cancel that day.

The 30 day cancellation came into play this year along with the downgrade period of notice to catch all those defecting footie fans for the summer.
When I cancelled in May I got the same story. they took the money on the same direct debit date, cut me off after 14 days and then 4 to 6 weeks later they reimburshed me a month and a half. Afraid you just need to let these things play their course and eventually you will be reimburshed.
