Yep, young folks going back to school, I can see it in the leaves on the trees, the weather is getting slightly colder and in the mornings I can see my breathe in front of me... goodbye Summer 2010 :(

You treated me well. So what did people get up to over the summer?

As soon as the kids go back to school there's going to be a heatwave.
    Thread is premature

Yeah, very bipolar weather today, I'm running in and out to catch the last rays when there's a break in the clouds.

The last day of August would be the official end, no?
Not some random day some kids are back in school.

Role on 1st two weeks in Sept, usually fantastic weather :)

Was waiting for a bus into work this morning and I saw one of my brothers friends...

He was already on a bus wearing a uniform.
He waved at me but I just burst my sheet laughing!

still have another month until college...

Pah. Bring on the dark winter evenings with open fires and bare trees and frosty breaths and massive winter coats. Best time of year by far!

    Summer ended on July 31st

Ireland is the only country in Europe that seems to consider August as part of autumn rather than summer. The only reason for it is to make St. Bridgets Day the first day of spring in February. Meteorologically speaking summer runs from June 1st to August 31st in the northern hempisphere.

Ha I sound like a right nerd :o

I didn't know Ireland was the exception here.

Yep, St. Bridgets Day was always first day of Spring

I remember making crosses from reeds :)

I just had a nice lunch in a street side cafe, enjoyed the sun, and am planning on going to the zoo tomorrow as the weather is meant to be great all weekend.

The summer isnt over til the fat lady freezes.

I also enjoy the extra time it adds to my commute now that every mammy in the city is driving their little darlings to and from school every day.

Hurray, now I get to squeeze and shuffle down the footpath as cars and SUV's park by the school.

Couldn't have little Mary walking an extra few metres.
They drive into the school door if possible

Weather wise its been a short sh!t summer as far as im concerned.

Started late & seems to be finishing early? The nights have been getting colder since the start of this month? WTF?? Couple of decent weeks of sun back in june, rainiest july for years & august has been mostly cloudy/rainy & cold at night as well? And people seem to think its been a good summer?
I would grade it 4.5 out of 10 or in basic terms....sh!te.

The one thing i will concede is that it has been a slightly better summer than last year. But thats not saying much because summer 2009 was meant to have been one of the worst summers on record in Ireland.

Yup back into the winter season again with another failed summer behind us & the ever hopeful & doomed expectations of a good one ahead. Same oul routine. Thats reminds me i must do the lotto tonight.

It's nice today, but we're in for some fun around the end of next week. Hurricane Danielle won't be anything like a hurricane by the time she gets here, but even the dregs of a hurricane can shake the leaves off the trees.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Why do people complain about our Irish Summer and weather here in general? First off this Summer was way better than last years, there was mostly sun, and it was great! I'm looking out the door right now at another sunny day in Dublin, which is class.

Secondly, why do we expect fantastic sunshine anyway? This country will only ever occasionally get a Mediterranean spell of sunshine, because we're not a Mediterranean country. If you want more sun, move to Spain!

The Roman's called Ireland 'Hibernia' which translates as 'The Land of Eternal Winter'. (That basically stopped them from invading because they didn't like our weather!)
