    Hi all!
Very much a noob when it comes to technical difficulties but I got a good ole Nikon an age ago and my basic kit lens lens that I got with it (18-135mm) needs to be replaced. I was told that he connection on the lens is banjaxed and I could usually fix it by jiggling the lens a bit but I really gotta get it replaced soon as it's just given out on me again and nothing is fixing it! Just looking for a general purpose lens, kind on the purse strings....
Anyone any advice on what/where to find something good and decent prices?

    Clean the contacts.

Is it a plastic or metal mount?

Contacts were cleaned, spick and span, made no difference.
Metal on the camera body, Plastic lens!

I'd say your mount may be warped then and the lens is jiggling around in the body?

Also, if you need a lense you may as well get some quality glass for cheap and get a 50mm f/1.8

    Yep!
A friend said the same so I think something new is needed!

    Any recommended links?
As I said, I am NOT knowledgable in these matters :)

While the 50mm f1.8 is very good value & not expensive, it is not what I would describe as being a versatile lens. It is sharp & fast but as it's a short telephoto on a cropped body it would not be the first lens I would reccommend in this case.

For a cheap general purpose lens I would suggest that the OP just get another kit lens. The Nikon kit lenses are fairly good quality & readily available when people sell them for some higher quality glass. I needed to pick one up a while ago for my D70S so that I could use as a loaner/teaching camera. I picked up an 18-55 VR lens in pristine condition for about €90 delivered. Look out on Adverts for them coming up.

Another excellent all purpose lens would be the Nikon 18-70mm kit lens. Very, very good optics and can be bought second hand for around €120.

I can recommend the Nikon 18-105, reasonably priced, and very sharp stopped down.
