Is it the same one that was on "Super Saturday"? Cos I really liked that.

I'd be a bit wary of any wine from Chile. As far as I know their controls on wine production are very poor so you could be drinking anything.

I dunno, myself and the missus tend to only drink Chilian, albeit white. Find most brands far superior to some of the other tat out there. Have heard good reports from red drinking friends about that particular one, so seems like a good deal

what you don't know wont hurt you :D I love chilean wine and i've drank wine from Lidl and I think their wine is nice, no matter where wine is from, do you really know what's in it apart from the grapes and alcohol?

The nicest wine I ever tasted was Chilean. I had it in a restaurant once and went looking to buy it in an off license afterwards. it couldn't be bought anywhere so I looked online and saw it was €69a bottle.

    So much for poor controls.

The truth of the matter is, controls no matter where in the world, can only do so much. Many (but not all) old and new world producers are not above a little fiddle every now and again.

You last year had the French selling any old tat to the Americans as pinot noir, so much so that it was estimated that they were selling more pinot noir than it was possible to produce. The year before it was the Italian's mixing in unauthorised grapes into their DOC, (I think it was Chianti Classico).

Therefore, while such schemes go a long way to control quality you also have to rely on the systems of the seller. I would imagine that Lidl along with any of the major supermarkets have very strict control systems in place and that they would not take any chances on iffy suppliers. Reputation is priceless.

Besides, as the buyer, if you like it and are happy with the price go for it.

Oyster Bay, thought it was 9.99 in Dunnes? Buy in bulk (6 or 12) and see if you can get a discount, applies in most shops. M&S have a good range of Sauv. Blanc if they are near and discount on any six bottles.

Tesco's are currenrly clearing this ... reduced from €13.99 to €6.00 .. Chilean Estate Grown Reserve Sauv Blanc ... had a chilled bottle last week to try it and it was very nice.

Ohh god, someone who refers to it as the "tiger".
I'm no wine snob, that's for sure. I hardly even drink the stuff. Apart from the odd J.P Chenet.
It was just something that came up in conversation recently and I thought I would share when I saw the thread.
*not based on facts in any way. just hearsay.

Superquinn are selling it for €8 at the moment, I don't know when that offer expires. it's worth buying a case of it, you could order it online.

Anyhow, back to the Lidl discussion. I was just talking about this on Friday with a friend of mine & she told me about the Super Saturday wine specials. Any recommendations? I mainly like dry white, so Sauvignon Blanc/Pinot Grigio. Apparently there are good reds too - St. Emillion? I'll have a look at the Cabernet Sauvignon, thanks OP!
