dry cow tubes on sucklers?

    just wonderin does anyone dry cow tube their sucklers? we have had 3 cases os mastitis in the first 10 cows calved. they did'nt calve down with mastitis but developed it between a week and 3 weeks afterwards.they were all milky cows perhaps too much so. :confused:

    do you use any fly prevention i assume you are talking about autumn calvers ?

    ye every 2 or 3 weeks prior to calving , they calving down fine but developing afterwards

    used to always dry cow tube the sucklers when we had them.
    would never have considered not doing them, thought it was the norm.(usually a cheap one though)

    tbh we never ever dry cow tubed our sucklers - we're not brave enough:D- but this seems to be a problem after calving

    In recent years we have used tubes on all the autumn calvers only - just after weining (That was 6 weeks ago) . I think that they are more at risk of mastitis than the spring calvers.

    no dry cow tubes....mastitis after calving is a problem.

    Maybe there is a connection here?
