Word 2007 not saving table of contents format

Hi Guys, Currently I have a word doc that has a fairly big table of contents that will not save the layout when saved. Hi Guys,

Currently I have a word doc that has a fairly big table of contents that will not save the layout when saved.
Upon opening the document again, all I can see is just the code from the table and not the actual table of contents itself.

Is there any way, or indeed any function that enables the table of contents to be seen as a whole as default on word 2007?
