Does anyone else think that this manual merc is worth £12,950 (approx €15839 according to xe.com)

Yes, it looks nice, has very low mileage, but its manual, has cloth seats. Am i missing something, or is it really worth nearly €16 grand! Plus VRT / Ferry etc if you you want it here.

That has to be a typo... or else they've been smoking something dodgy!!!:D

No way. I saw a 280TE with similar mileage and for similar money recently, and even that was overpriced.

What in particular is wrong with "the manual"?
I used to drive a 123T 300TD Estate manual and I wouldn't like it to have any other way...

In fairness, that manual felt like it was designed in a castle in the 1400s.

Have you driven one? Did it ever fail?
The one in my 123T was the 5-speed manual transmission made by Getrag, an expert in building top class gearboxes. They also built one for the M3 BMW and for the 190E Evolution. Best gearbox on the market at the time and if serviced (occasionally) it will go for ever.

I've driven a few, and in fairness they all felt bombproof. Awful, but bombproof, i'll give you that.;)

I didn't say there was anything wrong with the manual. I was implying that the seller is asking top money for a car with a less desireable spec.

A manual W123 is less desireable than an auto, maybe not in everyones eyes, but in general it is, and therefore an auto would command a higher price.

Anyway, manual or auto, I still think thats a shocking price for that car. I'd love a W123 estate, but it would have to be an automatic, and not that price!!

Yeah, you are right, the price is mad for any spec. For me, the 123T would have to be a Diesel, no matter what the transmission is, but a Diesel engined one is the one to have.

I can kind of see the attraction of a 300D, but for me it'd have to be a 280TE auto with air & velour. I have a big thing for that 80s MB velour.

There was a brand new unregistered 240D for sale at the NEC classic car show last October for ten thousand stirling IIRC.

CC Benz cars are generally massively overpriced IMO, even in a Merc market that is full of bizarrely optimistic asking prices. They're not too far from where I'm from in Cheshire, which is full of very wealthy individuals and there is a huge (classic) car culture behind the scenes, so to speak, because of the cash that's around :D

The problem is that vastly wealthy people are vastly wealthy partly because they don't spend £13k on 27 year old base-spec Merc estates.

Its a crazy price alright. I did consider a 300d estate (W124) (and saloon) but despite the engineering I think estates are never going to beat a 4WD. Also some seem to forget that the W123 was very rust prone in comparison to the W124.

In what way and which 4WD? In comparison to an off-roader, a good estate is nicer to look at, handles better, rides better, brakes better, uses less fuel and can carry almost as much stuff (if not more than some 4x4's). By the way, you can buy a 124T 300TD with 4WD (4Matic system) if you need all wheel drive.

For load-lugging, I reckon you can't beat a good estate. While I generally think American cars don't work over here, I'd make an exception for an Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser with all the trimmings. :)

You can actually have a fully restored W123, of your spec., built for between €20-25k.

It might seem like a lot, but I consider it to be cheap, since its one of the best cars ever made AND they come with new car warranty !

What other shlte is available out there at that price ?

Really...? I remember seeing a 123T in TDT version for something around 22k Euro and a very clean, low mileage 300D for 29k (both cars in Holland). In this case the above option would make sense.

This is one of the first w123's ('82 240 diesel) to be totally rebuilt by Mark Cosovich in Wales. There is a very long waiting list for these cars. This one resides in a private collection in Co. Clare. Mark says the best 123's are going to Ireland.
