Car hire dilemma

I hired a car in France and due to getting lost on the way to the airport I was unable to fill the car up with diesel. I know it'll probably cost be twice as much as it should. The car was just less than half full so I'm expecting to be charged 60 or 70 euro for it. Am I right in assuming that?

However I left the car back with a scratch on it as well. I'm assuming this came from where a kid scratched it with a bike as the place I stayed was full of kids on bikes. The scratch was on the passenger door in or around a foot long. it wasn't all that deep so it should be an easy fix.

As it was so early this morning when I was flying, all I could do was drop the keys back in the drop off point. I did leave a deposit of 500e.

Am I likely to get any of it back? Am I entitled to ask for a receipt for the job they do on the car?

From experience that I have had with hire cars, minor damage like that has gone unnoticed.

    Fingers crossed you'll be fine!

Did they check the car while you watched when you returned the car? In my experience checks are rare. If they didn't check the car it would be very difficult for them to claim afterwards you were responsible for a minor scratch.

There was no one there to check the car as it was around 8 this morning. Will they contact me if there is an issue or will they go ahead and just deduct the cost from my 500 deposit?
