I went through the same process a few years back. The problem is that (AFAIK) they stopped making the AHW engine back in 2002 or so, so most of the one's knocking about will be highish mileage and burning oil, as they do.

Keep ringing around scrappies. Otherwise, maybe look into the possibility of putting a different engine code in. Will prob work out expensive though cuz you will need all the ancilliary bits.

I eat my words! I'd be looking for a guarantee that it isnt burning oil!

    Hi,

thanks but that gumtree engine was sold already (under a week, crazy)

Cut the long story short, most likely oil pump failed in my friends Golf, she did got a oil pressure light but thought it to be oil light and continued, so eventually engine seized.

Now main bearings and crankshaft are badly damaged, so the engine cannot be repaired and new (second)hand engine cannot be found either.
