I just thought I'd let people know about Souhans in Trim Co. Meath.

They manufacture exhausts, cats etc. on site for excellent money.

I've just been quoted €700 all in for a direct replacement cat for my car i.e. the construction is exactly the same as what you'd get from Mazda who are looking for €1600 + VAT.

Hope this is of help to someone!

EDIT: I am in no way affiliated with this company nor do I stand to make any personal/financial gains from this post.

Surely all they are doing is fitting a generic, albeit suitable cat to your car. €700 is plenty to be paying. 1600 & VAT is just silly

Things never seem that simple with an RX-8!

True enough, I guess with its 'special' engine, things can get interesting.

Ive used Souhans several times, good prices and service indeed, especially when you compare to what people in the US seem to pay (ie on forums).

The CAT has always been an expensive part on the Rx-8 even non OEM ones are usually €1k +

578 euro - not a default oem one but I'd preffer it not to be, just gotta be careful with it rattling against the firewall.

Good find Viper, although personally I'd stay away from it.

I got one similar from MRP in England and no matter what I did to make it fit, there was always an air leak. Even put back on the OEM one a few times to see if we were doing it right and we were.

At least in Souhan's, they make it identical to the OEM one and they also fit it. They say that they've done a lot of RX-8's so are well used to it. Also, if it doesn't fit they have the job of making it fit and you don't have to send that back to England like I had to :o

Ah that's cool, I had mine replaced under warrrenty, had the car a few months completely oblivious to the fact that ignition coils have a tendency to stop working, ended up in broken down on the side of the street in Limerick :( 4 igntion coils + 1 cat + alot of reading about the car think I should be all good.

Deviating from the tread slightly (apologies in advance) I'm assuming you have the 231 with the boose 6 cd changer, if so have you made any changes\upgrades to the head unit? want to play off my mp3 player but, think a different head unit would ruin the look of the dash.

Nope, mine is a 250bhp JDM import - no warranty since I'm the 3rd owner (2nd Irish owner) so I had to fork out for the cat myself. Turns out it's not even gone bad, it was just me thinking it was! I just sent it back and put on the OEM one. The revs always hit 10,000 when I want them to so that's a sign the cat is working well :D

I have the Bose 6 CD Changer and what with the car being JDM, it also has a :eek:MiniDisc:eek: player! If you installed a run-of-the-mill HU you'd need all the plastic bits to cover up the gaps. Not worth it!

To keep this somewhat on-topic, I'll PM you about this.

I bought a iPod integration kit from eBay, 90euro for the kit and 90euro installation from ICE Ranelagh. Keep a iPod mini plugged in 24/7 and change songs etc through the steering wheel, it turns the 6 CD changer into a single CD changer (but who uses CDs anymore kids?!)

O/T, I know.... but I used to think that, too. And I got berated by Mrs Gtt when I did get the iPod.

Want to guess who wore out the HDD on the first one ??? ;) Brilliant yoke, btw.

Having said that, I just got a Sony W995 phone, and tbh, it's a close-run thing.......
