Advice needed for playing pubs in Limerick

    Hi there,
I will be starting a Masters in Music Technology in September down in Limerick and I'm going to need some weekly cash to keep me going. As I play the guitar and flute and I sing, I wanted to play pubs on Friday or Saturday night.
I was wondering if anyone had advice as to what people charge for doing it, if there are many pubs open to paying a musician to play. I'd be very good and I've played a lot of gigs before. There'd be no problem learning basically any set list.

Also does anyone have advice as to must play songs? I was thinking Irish songs/classic rock would be the thing? I'd particularly like to incorporate the flute in there and use looping so I could play guitar, flute and sing, I've done it for a few songs and they sound great.

    Anywho! Advice please!

To be honest, if you're a one man outfit I'd be very susprised if you had any luck in the City.

If you had two or three lads who went to pub and offered to start a session of trad music then you may have more luck though, and you'd be more likely to get paid.

From my days playing trad I always had to have a small group to get a paying gig slot anywhere. Age may also be a factor though. Maybe scout around for a week or two, go to the Trad sessions in UL and see if you can find a couple of like minded (and decent) musicians to go out and look for a gig with and take things from there.

    +1 on the above....
one piece gigs in and around town seem to be mostly one lad on an acoustic guitar or a lad with backing tracks. on the irish music side of things, not many paying gigs for just straight trad that i can think of, its mostly 2-3 man ballads/rebel stuff with some tunes thrown in. this may not be exactly what you're after, but back in the days of the sibin on o'connell street, it kept me busy enough.

best of luck with it though, music scene in limerick needs a good kick...

    Oh yeah,

It would be no harm to start yourself a fresh thread looking for a few trad lads around town.

What kind of stuff are you playing on guitar? if you put your interests out there you might strike lucky.

As ham_n_mustard says though, the Limerick scene does need a good kick, it's very hard to get any sort of music project up and running here these days.
