I think you need to be more realistic with your budget. I'm not saying go out and buy a 1,000 euro race machine, but sit down and ask yourself "Where will she be going on this?" and then say "How much would this save in petrol/taxis/bus fare over the course of a few months?".

It costs me 30 euro to run a car for a week, get a taxi from town or make 15 journeys on the bus.

You then need to factor in lights, lock, helmet, etc. unless you plan on either replacing the bike or your girlfriend in the near future.

I think you really need to look at about 80-100 as a starting point for a decent second hand hybrid that is in good mechanical condition and won't be torture for her to ride. If you think this is excessive, then cycling is probably not for her and you should look at a decent pair of walking shoes for 30 euro.

50 will get you a bike of some description. You will need to light it and lock it.
