Have 11 year old Mizuno Widecs, started playing 1999 gave up after 6 months. Back playing this year after ten years. Handicap was 24 now 26, after playing club competitions.

Not great on the irons , trying to slow down and smooth swing out and have been told all along the Mizuno's were not forgiving enough and more suited to low HC golfer.

Have chance to try out a loan of Wilson x31's and wondering would this be a good idea.

    any thoughts.

I'm not familiar with the Wilsons to be honest, but Mizuno certainly do make irons suitable for the higher handicap player. Check out their MX range, very, very good clubs. The widecs are possibly a little dated now but if they're in good nick they won't hold you back.

If you're defintely looking to change another option would be to look at picking up a second hand set of something like Callaway X-14 or X-16 or X-18 - all great irons and would be plenty forgiving. I'd say a set of those would be pretty reasonable.....

If you go for a new set, definitely get custom fitted if your budget allows, most places will knock the cost of the fit off the price of the clubs.

Remember its mostly not the irons but the player (unless they are completely unsuitable for you), get out there and practice :D

Cheers, have been practicing, but not much in last 2 weeks.

Have heard great things about the Callaways alright. Cant afford a major change at the moment unfortunately. Will just try and keep my head down!
