    Hi guys,

I have a 7 month German sheperd bitch who is becoming very aggresive towards other dogs when out on walks the behaviour started about 2 months ago and has gradually been getting worst. Around the house she is well behaved, listens to basic commands and doesn't bark at me or my girlfriend or our other dog, although she is dominent towards him. But when she leaves the house for a walk she starts barking immediatly , when she smells or see's another dog she pulls on the lead and becomes very aggressive, at that point she will NOT listen to any of my commands to stop. I've tried alot of differant things, I don't want to do anything negitave, as in shouting (Winding her up more), or slapping on the nose but I can't get her calm enough to reward her.

My fear is she will continue this into adulthood and eventually injure someone elses dog people already have to cross the street when she is coming as she can be very intimadating. She is protective in the house around strangers but is much more controlable there as in she will respond to my calls and in general is very well behaved with people I introduce her to.

Basicly, I need help...a dog trainer that can show me what I am doing wrong and help me correct it, so i'm looking for advice or anyone that someone here can recommend to me and I want to start asap. She wa spayed yesturday and is recovering so as soon as she is well again I want to get her to behaviour classes so that me and her can understand what needs to be done. I know she is a good dog, I want to help her and build a better bond with her also.

    hi
it could be down to the fact that you dog has not been properly socialised with other dogs.
if you are based in Dublin, Dog Training Ireland run a number of courses /classes etc and all staff there are great
im sure if you google you will find other pet training courses located around the country if you are outside dublin.

I would strongly advise some training classes, there is a service called Tag n RyeDog Services, which Ive heard great things about, maybe give them a call and see if they could help you out http://www.tagnrye.com/contact.htm

    good luck :)

I'm based in North Dublin , I will check them links out. Should I be looking at obediance courses or something more direct with the issue of being dog aggressive first?

i have a german shepard pup about 6 months old she isnt aggressive but wants to play with every dog and wont listen to commands when she sees another dog.
We are bringing her to socialization classes which are helping her get used to being around lots of different dogs of different sizes and temperaments. and she is slowly starting to listen to us around them

when you say she is getting agressive is she just barking/jumping round etc out of excitment because of the other dogs? she may not be necessarily aggressive towards them as she is still a puppy really. whats her body language like when she starts barking?
my dog barks when someone comes to the door but its not in an agressive way, he just gets excited. still has a waggy tail and bounces round the place. we are currently trying to train this out of him though as if you didnt know him you would be nervous of him.
i would say your best bet is to ring one of the training centres mentioned above and tell them exactly what you have said here. they should be able to tell you what courses you can do to get you started!
    good luck :)

Thanks , I can tell it's aggression from her body launguage , I have a Husky aswell and he gets exited around other dogs but he will stop if I ask and he more just wants to go over and play with them , he jumps around etc but Holly has a differant body tone she barks and growls, sticks her chest out and head up high trying to intimidate the other dog she hasn't snapped at one yet but I have a feeling she might if another dog challenged her..

I've heard that Dublin Dog Training in Swords are meant to be very good. The man that runs it has a lot of experience with training German Shepherds in particular.
