The new dunboyne line times are now up in journey planner for next friday 3rd sep onwards

As the new stations are not on the system yet you can only see docklands Clonsilla services on weekdays and the extra Connolly Clonsilla services at weekends. You also won't see the Clonsilla dunboyne shuttles operating at night.

not on my version of journey planner. no mention of dunboyne trains at all and no times for connolly-dunboyne trains just connolly-maynooth when you search connolly-clonsilla

the oly difference i can see is between connolly and clonsilla today 9am-3pm there are 9 trains and on 3rd september there are only 8!

Some bad news for Dublin 15 passengers

The majority of dunboyne line trains will run non stop between Clonsilla And the city

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,331 ✭✭✭✭loyatemu

I believe that there is to be a Clonsilla/M3 Parkway (Pace) shuttle service after that.

Well given that they are only 4 car trains, I suspect that the loadings from M3 Parkway, Dunboyne and Clonsilla will probably fill them up already!

There may well be time contraints also in terms of running time available.

To get timings from Dunboyne simply type Dunboyne into the station field and ignore the fact that it doesnt offer a suggestion.
Pace doesnt work though so is it even going that far quite just yet?

EDIT - pace is called M3 Parkway officially and this works with the journey planner.
For intermediate station times click on the i symbol.

Connections between Dunboyne Train and Maynooth train to Connolly only involve a 5-10 minutes wait at consilla for nearly all trains. Will this not be putting to much pressure on the already overcrowded maynooth trains.

I also noticed in the late evening 3 of the last 4 trains run direct to connolly will the other is shuttle connection to the maynooth train.

I'd also imagine that part of the reason for this is to market it as an express service for passengers from Meath.

Yep true I agree the journey times outweigh the 70 even post network direct!

As a Clonsilla rail user, I have to say 15 minute journeys to and from the city is brilliant news and I will be using them as well!

Any public transport links to and from M3 Parkway, or do you have to walk to Navan if you haven't brought a car?

I haven't seen any mention thus far of a public transport link between M3 Parkway and Navan. Tbh if you were getting a bus from Navan you may as well get one straight to Dublin rather than to Pace as it'd probably take longer to get to Dublin by bus & train.

A local link from somewhere like Dunshaughlin to Pace might make sense though.

I've thought about this as well. I wonder would they consider running buses from Trim, Ratoath, Navan, Ashbourne etc.

Which "they" do you have in mind?

The answer I would give is Meath County Council and the relevant town councils contracting IE to in turn subcontract a bus company or companies to provide feeder shuttles with integrated fares and co-branding to the train service. Never gonna happen though.

Link to the printed timetables below. As usual the IE timetable is as confusing as ever but at least they got the Irish placenames in. Subject of another thread which I will be starting later.

Worth noting there ARE changes to a number of maynooth line services in both directions as a result

This includes the 16.53 maynooth Wexford which will now depart from maynooth at 17.00 and will depart from Connolly for wexford at 17.36

Of course no mention in the Wexford timetable

Great to have the service at last but very disappointed with the evening service. There will continue to be no public transport to Dunboyne leaving the city centre between 21.20 and 23.20. A shuttle to meet the Clonsilla train which arrives at 22.23 would fill the gap nicely. Is this too much to ask?

Folks its a start. The folks in irish rail will have to see the loadings of the train before they start to expand services. I happy with the timetable as there is spare capacity on evening services leaving connolly after 19:30 and with the luas in place there is only a short journey from Docklands to Connolly and onto the Maynooth. Glad to see the timings on the morning trains average 10 mins so you can switch trains in the mornings if you want to go from M3 into Connolly or Maynooth to Docklands. There needs to be some changes made espically to the evening services outbound from Docklands so that the same switches can be done in a 10 min turnaround and this would allow the 17:15 and 18:20 to Longford to be able to keep their journey to the 2hrs timeframe.

He's happy about Judgement day's post concerning the use of Irish by Irish Rail and is looking forward to it (use of Irish by IE or the Dunboyne service - I'm not sure which).

Rough translation - I had Irish beaten into me and beaten out of me many moons ago;)

Will there be less maynooth trains?

No but some Northern line trains will have less capacity in order to cater for Dunboyne.

Northern line, the poor relation once more

The poor relation indeed Mullingar/Longford is the starvin marvin. I'll give you the 17:15 and the 18:18 for a 21:00 and 05:30 ex Longford

Another good reason to close the South Wexford line - think of the difference a single two car dmu could make to the Dunboyne service.

Do we know for sure if three sets will be used?

Looking at the timetable, with short layovers two would be enough.

If it's three I take it both platforms at docklands and pace will be used. Is there adequate crossovers?

You can blame your local politicians on that!

There is a 05.45 ex longford

I've read that they've built a station for this line at Hansfield but it cannot open due to some developers not building a road or allowing a road to be built across their land.

    Bloody hell!

Yep,i believe the twin developers were reluctant to get their act together and build an access road to the station despite using the new rail line as a key selling point when they advertised the development. AFAIK the station is ready to go,just needs a road to it to be built.

    That is a disgrace.

Sadly it just seems to sum up what a shambles this country is.

Is anyone from Navan Dunshauglin etc going to use this service?

Pay a toll on the M3 and immediately pay more money to park your car in the CIE carpark then pay a trainfare into Town. Get the train back and immediately get clobbered for another toll.

What sort of joined up thinking allowed the NRA to locate the toll where they did. I thought offical government policy was to encourage people to use public transport

the govt has also guaranteed a certain level of income to the operators of the M3 - hardly in their interest to allow people avoid the toll by getting a train instead....

Had a notice from the local FF pols about the car parking.
FREE in the M3/Pace station and €2 per day or €8 per week in the much smaller Dunboyne car park.

heres the parking details as a newspaper article
Hard-pressed Meath commuters got a boost this week with the news that free parking is to be provided at the brand new M3 Parkway station when the new Dunboyne-Dublin passenger railway line opens next month.
The 1,200-space park and ride facilility at the interchange with the M3 motorway at Pace, north of Dunboyne, should encourage commuters to use the the new rail link, according to Iarnrod Eireann's spokesperson, Barry Kenny.
However, there will be parking charges at the railway station in Dunboyne village of €2 per day, €8 per week or €30 for four weeks.

    snip

There will be an expected 31-minute journey time from the M3 Parkway station to Dublin.
The price of an adult day return ticket to Dublin will be €6.00 and a weekly rolling rail ticket will be €26.80. In Dublin, the Luas runs to the Docklands station to connect passengers with other parts of the city.

I walk past the Hansfield station every day on my way down to Clonsilla station so it is especially frustrating to hear it is not opening next week! However, I did see a construction type/JCB vehicle and some workmen on the access road this morning. I might take a closer look this evening after work to see what might be going on. Perhaps some political pressure has been put on the developer in recent days to get the access road started since the delay was publicised by the media. It would be great if it was completed before the winter sets in.
