    But it works great and more importantly, isnt a Mac. so you can use it and not be a complete spanner.

    Is this in relation to the number placement or that its similar to vista?

    4 posts in and there's already mac bashing :rolleyes: I prefer windows over the mac os but each to their own. Be honest op you want the .1 back so I'd suggest using windows 3.1

    Both.

    The minor revisions are more successful.

    Windows 2000 was Windows 5, and it had compatibility issues.
    Windows XP was 5.1, and everyone liked it.
    Windows Vista was 6, and had compatibility issues.
    Windows 7 is 6.1, and everyone likes it.

    According to MS, changing the major version number is what causes the incompatibility issues.

    Some other people say this is not true. They say it's just because the minor revisions fix most of the bugs in the major revisions.

    Releasing the minor revisions as minor revisions doesn't work well for them [they did it with Windows 98 SE]. It reinforces the idea that the major revision is broken. People don't really distinguish the products as much. It's also difficult to generate a buzz about something that's not new.
