windows 7 upgrade

    Hi Guys

    I have a laptop that I got from harvey normans it has windows 7 home edition operating system on it, my sister has just bought a laptop from dell and it has windows 7 professional on it. as you know dell normally send out the dics in case you need to reinstall any software. Can i upgrade my laptop with my sisters windows 7 professional software as I would like to use the xp down grade on it. when i bought the laptop from Harvey normans i didnt get any disc with it.

    Legally no, it's only for use with the Dell system.

    Technically, possibly. The disk may be prepped to only work on thatbsystem, and likely wouldn't have many of the drivers for your systems hardware.

    You could do it the legitimate way using Windows Anytime Upgrade. You'd have to pay some money to Microsoft though, but it is an officially supported way of changing versions of Windows 7.
