    Hey guys,

There is a new tesco opening not too far away from where i'm based.
So filled out a appilcation for and threw in a copy of my c.v attached also, thought i was applying for in the lines of a Management role of some sorts.(supervisor/deputy Manager etc.)
I received a call earler today from the recruiter and proceeded to do an interview over the phone. The kind lady stated that she was only intiating the recruitment process for the ground level staff(9.85 per hour)I then proceeded to state that i would be interested in a Supervisory role, she then stated that Tesco have an internal programme for ambitious people that want to get to management should the oppertunity arise in said store or another store within an hours drive.

I would be interested in taking the role if it was to get that to management after say 6-12 months starting at ground level.

Has anybody any info that they wouldbe willing to share about the above or do you have any friends that were/are in the same position in the interviewing process with Tesco.

    any information would be appreciated

    cheers in advance.

    Grer

What Tesco?? Can you get me a job if you get in ;)..

I used to work there 10 years ago fairly decent job could never get a hang of the clock in card system tho  that thing just didn't like me twas only a nipper so it was alri back then ..

Big on customer retention and care..
    Safety ..
    Presentation..
All stock takes and orders are done on a computer based ordering system manually uploaded obviously..
Security knowledge especially on the automated checkouts its so easy to rob from them its almost a crime not to:P..
Reliability cause you need to be in or else the store don't open and trust is another big one ..
Leadership and the ability to tell people what to do is the easy part .

I know a bloke working in one as a manager. The pays good 35k+ but the only complaint is that's a salary so you could be working 60hr+ a week and get no overtime or extra pay .. You get extra holidays for extra hours worked but these have to be taken at the end of the year or there just wiped off.. He rarely gets to take them because he does be wayy to busy and there's not enough managers to cover extra holidays .. As he puts it thats the joy`s of working as a manager in Tescos..

    Thats it really, good luck

Well its quiet easy all you have to do is press bananas for your most expensive item like 2 magazines = 50 cent in bananas.. If its small enough you can put it into the bag of apples you just bought .. Or if you want to get 200 grams of pasta buy the tesco value ones and cut out the barcode and with a little bit of pritt stick put it over the roma pasta barcode the next time ..

If your afraid of being caught, you cant play dumb with the barcode switching and will be obvious you went in with the intent of going in prepared to rob.

If somthing happens to fall into the bag of bananas or apples while your shopping and you don't notice well no judge in country is going to convict you for a mistake ..

Always make sure you have enough money to buy the item otherwise it will be obvious to your intent not to pay ..

I don't do this BTW just know to much for my own good

The new ones have the weight of each item entered into them so they stop working if anything like you described happens. Everything the attendant has to reset it your drawing attention to yourself.

Also an awful lot of cameras around the self-scans, no point stopping you for the bananas, much better to get 40 mins footage of you over a 3 week period and bring that to a judge.

eire2009: Yeah what your friend says about being a Tesco manager is pretty much correct.

If your dumb enough to swap a Tesco 200g pastal label with a 400g Roma pasta label you deserve to get caught .. As for cctv if your doing it every day fair enough but their cameras cant see whats in your bag of bananas no more than you can there not transparent.. Im not suggesting you put a TV through as bananas nor am I suggesting that you do it. Im saying it does get done quiet easily as there's one person for like 7-8 automated checkouts..

As for the 40 minute footage, the cameras are at the back of you in the one Im talking about and they cant see in front because of the machine.. They'd have to catch you red handed twice to even call the cops otherwise they could get left open for a deformation of character or whatever, it could plausibly happen once or even twice by mistake..

B&Q dont have the same problem as items are not weighed like F&V and not placed into a bag straight after being scanned also the items are all irregular without the weight printed on them so it would be hard to switch labels..

Sorry for being the one to point this out but there's nothing much Tescos can do about it .. Its good enough for them as thats over 8 full-time checkout jobs gone away with .. I doubt they'd loose 2`500 euro a week from theft in this manner .. If you did work for Tescos you should know that they should be more concerned with staff theft than anything else the lads were buying 24 cans for 15 euro at on stage someone must of got a pallet out or something, Tvs go missing etc.. There not too worried about a couple of yoyo`s gone missing..

you should see the amount of good food they throw out on a daily basis because the dates up it does be still good for a few days past this date but they cant sell it so into the compactor it goes you'd feed a small town off the **** ..

That my friend to me is the biggest crime..

I worked there many years ago and was one of my duties, used to collect all the unused chickens from the deli and throw them in the compactor:(.
