How to Activate 3GS without Sim - Unknown Netork

I bought a 3GS second habd that had been jailbroke. I was told it was factory unlocked so updated to 4.0.2. Turns out its not and i've no way of getting money back etc. I'm stuck at the insert cable and sim screen. Have tried all Irish networks with no luck. Is there anyway to bypass this to activate the phone?

what firmware was on it before ya updated, there is a good chance the previous owner saved the shsh files on cydia, have a go at this

It was on 4.0.1. Might give that a go now actually to see if I can at least restore to that. I tried to get it to 3.1.2 to hacktivate it but no luck just get an error

Yeah hes just saying he thought it was factory when he got it was jailbroke. Got it at a decent price on gumtree so if the sim tool works i'll be happy enough

Its currently restoring to 4.0.1 anyway so at least I can unlock it when I get the tool now. Cheers lads
