Is physical attractiveness given enough respect?

I mean, yes of course it is important and the vast majority of us actively seek it out in a mate but does it get the respect it deserves.

I have been hearing a lot of women lately bitching about the miss universe/miss world contest ( not sure which) that was on the other day, saying well it's not like it's a talent these girls have so why should it be celebrated. They say they just happen to have beautiful genes and being conventionally physically attractive should not be regarded as some kind of achievement.

I disagree with this and put the complaints down to envy. Fair enough, some of these girls may have been lucky enough to be born as natural beauties but I am sure a lot of them have had to work at it, just as a writer works on a novel or a songwriter on a song. Fair enough, you have to have the raw materials to be beautiful but these girls maybe work out every day, diet when necessary, pay loads of attention to their hair, nails, skin etc. I imagine the sacrifices and hours they have put in, in the pursuit of beauty would be on a par with olympic athletes so I think they should be respected and admired for attaining their incredible level of attractiveness.

You may say the pursuit of beauty is not a noble concept, that it is superficial, vain or selfish. I would disagree and suggest beauty and attractiveness really are worthwhile pursuits and should be regarded and admired just as great works of arts are. After all we are all too ready to praise those who dedicate themselves to quests for medals in kayaking or awards for acting (hardly life-changing or world-turning events) so why not respect the beautiful ones too who give me far more pleasure than any kayakist or thespian (unless that kayakist or thespian happens to be gorgeous too in which case, bingo, you've found "the one").

So, to sum up, beauty is an endeavour, it takes a lot of hard work, it should be respected more. I know the cretins will argue that they don't like for someone to be judged on their beauty alone, but those that do that are so taken in by the all encompassing overpowering intoxication that is the attractive other, that they simply fail to notice anything else, the most forgivable of oversights and a nod to the potency, wonder and enchantment that is beauty (please cretins, don't get into a debate about what beauty is here, I'm talking about conventionally attractive people and yes I know we have been told/taught/instructed/brainwashed/subliminally mindf**ked about what that is and I know some people have different definitions of what it is but spare me that cretinous mindnumbing bollox and bear with me when I say it is angelina jolie/megan fox/brad pitt/george clooney types etc etc and yes I know some cretin will say s/he doesn't fancy some of the above)

In short, don't just lust after it, don't just swoon for it, don't curse it when it burns you, respect it as the remarkable achievement it is

In this country, too much respect, it seems.

    You must be young.

You haven't discovered yet that physical attractiveness effects most areas of life, from job interviews to who the waiter serves first.

Spend a few days in LA sometime and you can witness it taken to an extreme, an "unattractive" person is a non-entity. (unless they're visibly dripping $50's).

Well there's no way I could watch porn if its (female)protagonists were not physically attractive to me.And porn is what made the internet what it is.So yes, whenever I feel the urge to spray silken arches of mangoo about the place, physical attractiveness is a must.

Seeing Mary Harney give deep throat whilst being DP'd would only disgust me.

So yeah, it's vital. But not a whole lot of talent involved.I mean, have you ever seen Kim Khardasian with no make up?She's still stunning.Naturally beautiful.
The only talent involved would be in resisting the urge to blow your load inside her after 30 seconds.

    OP
Surely there has to be more to life than just being really really, really really, ridiculously good looking?

I respect a physically attractive person, if when they open their mouth to speak...they are not a complete plank...
Only then would they deserve my respect.
    Same goes for anyone.

More concerned about hygiene than good looks really.
If a girl is good looking but needs a good wash, I won't be going anywhere near her.

I dont think it is. I absolutely hate TVs need to promote more "Normal" looking people on their programmes. When i turn on my tv i want to see good looking people. Ugly and overweight people on tv make me feel uncomfortably.

Dunno, it's sometimes nice to see someone on tv who is much uglier than you are.
    Kind of gives a boost.

''Look at that ugly, fat, heap of etc etc''.

Think I'll have a salad for dinner...

I would hazard a guess that you are average looking, at best.

But the same could be said for intelligence, or family of birth.

Why is it always Earthlings that win Miss Universe?

    Unfair bias, I say.

because we are the centre of the universe and no other living thing lives outside earth in the unimaginable space, therefore we are superior to absolutely everything.

She was hot long before a scalpel ever touched her. Please don't tell me she went under the knife at 13.Please.

The problem with Kim is that somebody has fcuked her brains out............ permanently. She is a beautiful retard.I could look at her forever but couldn't listen to her for a nano-second.

This seems to be the rule rather than the exception.

It's odd that you never really see a smoking hot genius. You never see a poster of Marie Curie next to Jessica Simpson or Einstein, shirt off ,sharing wallspace with Brad Pitt or whoever today's dreamboat is.

The more I look at this the more I see a pattern.

Hotties are there to be banged,to fluff,to be whores, because lets face it,generally they are feck all good at anything else.I'm not criticising this fact, merely stating it.

Well those take some investigation to discover, you'd have to know someone to discriminate against them that way.

    While looks are purely superficial.

I don't know.I just hope that the picture I drooled on was taken when she was 18 or thereabouts.Otherwise I shall have to have a word with myself.
