Anyone else get accepted into here? Just got my offer today :)

Hope there's a good atmosphere about the place! Anyone know if they're strict on having guests over?

Atmosphere was excellent there. Just start knocking on doors when you arrive and get to know people. You'll enjoy it.

Yes, unfortunately security are strict on over-night guests.

Being on campus is pretty great even if the accommodation isn't. If your gonna be hanging around the house a lot, then you might want somewhere nicer.
but if your leaving in the morning, only coming back for meals and going home at the weekend, its fine. 1 minute walk to the library, at most 3 mins or less to your classes. Beside the gym. You can go all the things societies have on.

Thats all the pro's I can think of, I rant about the cons a bit too much..

oh and as for guests. Officially, yes, they are strict, you have to sign up online and pay 5 euro from your deposit. I had a friend miss her bus home one night and the security absolutely refused to let her in.
otherwise... they don't close any of the side gates or check who's coming in before 11. and even then they only do so on night where lots of people are going out. They have no way to know if you have a visitor if you get in early.

Having lived in Larkfield I can give a few of the advantages and disadvantages of living there.

    ADVANTAGES:

    -The craic.
-Living near so many fellow first years.
-Geographical proximity to the library (not that that was an advantage to a CS student) and most lecture places (not that that was much of an advantage either for a CS student).

    DISADVANTAGES:

-Tendency to be woken up at all hours by drunken individuals.
-A prison cell type of room.
    -A tiny kitchen.
-The presence of many clingy individuals who will annoy the hell out of you.

Thanks for the replies! :) If you have someone over and they aren't signed in, will they have to stay in the room or could they go to the student bar etc? Just asking cuz I know no one going this year so might like to have my best friend up a bit.

Also, are the balls and events nights themed? Like will I need a costume? Could I bring along a friend to a ball? Damn DCU starting so late, I was so excited about starting college, but as the days go by and I've little to do but think about it I'm begining to get nervous :o

That might come down to their ability in the gate-hopping field. You could go to the bar but you would have to be past the campus residence entrance before 11 because after that they will be checking student cards and sign-in sheets. If you do go past you and your friend can roam around all the accommodation as the security will just assume ye are both residents and won't ask for student ID. If you leave it past 11, then jumping the gate is the only option.

You can indeed bring a friend but if they are not from the college they will need a guest ticket. The events are often themed but the only one you'll really need a costume for is, naturally, the Halloween one. Last year the Orientation Ball had a Michael Jackson theme and hardly anyone bothered adhering to it. You won't be out of place if you don't bother dressing up.

Finally, don't be getting nervous. You'll love it, particularly the first few weeks.
