does anyone know what the opening hours are this Friday?I presume alumni can still use it without id (it's been a while!) and I'm trying to organise a Pav friday.

Any drinks specials on there at the moment?

    Thanks :)

Technically, if you're not a student, you need someone to sign you in. Or, you could be a Pavilion member. There are probably one or two other loop-holes too.

Is this some sort of pub or something?

It's a place where box socials usually begin.

I feel like a bigger n00b with every question...

Box social? The super reliable urban dictionary says "the opposite of a sausage party/gathering of hot females". Accurate much?:p

a Box Social is an annual get together for a sports club. (Or at least, that's what my box socials are)

It's the Trinity Sports Bar, the only bar on campus since the Buttery closed. Of course Trinity's located in the city centre so students have a free pick of places to go, but the Pav's on campus, and sells cans of Bav for €2.50 (4 for 8) so it's the perfect place for a few after lecture cans.

I take it you're going into 1st year, theOwen?

You'll find out what the pav is fairly quickly.

    It's the Trinity Sports Bar,
It's a cricket pavilion that has a bar. This isn't DCU.
the only bar on campus since the Buttery closed.
Trinity is a college. We don't refer to the college as a "campus".

Make sure you ask for a glass. You can spot the interlopers with their Centra cans a mile off.

Officially, the rules state that only students, staff and members of the sports centre can be served at the Pav.

However, the reality of the situation is that unless you really really don't look like any of the above you will get served in the pav no problem, and even if you happen to be there during one of their infrequent crackdowns, unless you're wearing a suit and tie or other obviously non-collegy apparel, you've got a fair chance of getting served.

Since when have ties become "non-collegy apparel"? There are probably 100 Trinity ties in existence (the TCD Association tie is currently the most popular in my reckoning). A generation ago, undergraduates wanted to look like men, not teenagers (free fees are certainly a factor in the Leaving Cert mentality prevalent amongst 21st century undergraduates). I'm hoping high quality tweeds will be fashionable (not ironically fashionable) this Winter.

Anyway, what you're suggesting above is not only against the college rules, it's also illegal.

When I say people in suits and ties I clearly mean people who look like they just left an office. I didn't really feel it was necessary to point that out. Obviously I wasn't referring to someone wearing a Trinity tie with a blazer or a sports jacket. Or someone wearing a trendy skinny tie with a Topman shirt for that matter. Of course I'm fairly sure you knew that, but saw an opening for your little "look at me, I'm different, with my classic fashion style" spiel so you feigned ignorance anyway.

    Cool story bro.

I'm not suggesting anything, just stating a fact. Are you denying that a random person of the street is going to have little difficulty getting served at the Pav, unless it's fairly obvious he isn't allowed there?

Hi Cantab. How is the summer treating you? Those pesky undergrads annoying you again?

I spent a lovely weekend with two undergraduates last weekend thanks. I'm moulding them into the next Sebastian Flyte. Not a pair of dirty ripped jeans or a polyester hoodie in sight.

*Has gotten served in the Pav in a UCD hoodie* >_>

    So yeah....

    *waves at Cantab*

Funnier still I am too, and I think we're actually attending the same get-together through numerous degrees of separation. You're going with gaeilge heads right?
