Why Did The WWE Destroy NEXUS?

In the space of three seconds Wade Barrett tapped out to Cena and with it went all of Nexus' credibility, momentum and interest.
I don't regularly watch WWE and this angle got me intrigued for the first time in years, why did they blow it? I thought they would have NEXUS go over at SummerSlam and pick up some titles so that we could appreciate their individual talents and characters further..now I don't even know the other guys names, nor do I care.

    Way to drop the ball...

I thought this was going to be something big - the end of an era/start of a new one, as such.

Instead, it was nothing more than a minor skirmish of a publicity stunt for NXT. I really feel they've wasted a golden opportunity to let the young fans who didn't see the nWo in all their glory (not that I'm comparing) see what a powerful invading force are capable of. It's a great angle that, when done right, is fantastic television.

Silly me in thinking we would finally see Cena turning heel and facing the Undertaker at Wrestlemania....

    Poor booking is the answer.

WWE decided to cut the legs out from Nexus by having them lose at SummerSlam, to a half-assed WWE team that imploded; by Super Cena, who sold a concrete DDT seconds before making his signature comeback. Also Cena jokingly mock them individually (it's like Triple H wrote this promo) when Nexus tried to get their heat back the next night on RAW really hurt Nexus......as well as giving them mostly token wins (DQ etc).....

Anyway, WWE gave us the payoff of the feud by having Cena overcome Nexus, so the angle's shot.

I also have to mention that Barrett's title shot should be against Cena (as champion) at a PPV -- again, Survivor Series would've been opportune. I guess they could still do that...

It's a pity really, as this was a really fantastic angle, right up until the wrong finish at SummerSlam.

That said, WWE can redeem themselves with 3-4 weeks of solid booking.

I enjoyed some parts to the whole Nexus angle but generally I shuddered everytime I saw the likes of Heath Slater and David Otunga in the ring. The only decent member they had ended up joining team WWE when it really mattered. I think the only way forward for the group now is to have HHH or Cena cross over and become the leader. It ain't gonna happen so I'd expect the group to slowly disapear into obscurity.

Yes, it's a shame because I thought it could be a breath of fresh air. It looks like we'll be waiting a while for another angle like this in the future - years I'm guessing - it just had so much potential and the perfect podium for the Cena heel turn.

Having said that, you're right...some members were bland, but I feel with a little work on each individual character and a title in hand, the members would get over with some big dominant wins.

I suppose for fear of the childrens feelings being hurt, WWE has ruined a perfectly good idea for the rest of us.

Have to agree with this. Lets be honest the in ring skills of Nexus are garbage and had they had started giving them a lot more match time then this board would have been full of complaints about how poor they are.

If 2 of them ,Barret and Danielson(yes i know he joined team wwe), both make it to the top of the card it has to be down as a success.

It will be interesting how the next few weeks pan out.

Thought the story line was decent enough but is any company going to let a new unproven product come in and take the place of their market leaders?

I am with you all on this, this could have been huge give them the Tag Title, US and have Barrett go for the WWE and possibly win it and they would have been huge the whole WWE afraid for their well being with Nexus around, everyone trying to get on their side.

But instead like everything in the WWE they rushed through it. One of the best feuds their has been lately (I think it was 2 years ago) was the Hardy vs MVP one that went on for a year, they let it slow burn and Smackdown was picking up viewers like nobodys business. Nexus could have been a major Raw booster.

    Agreed.

To be honest with you, I thought this NEXUS angle was going to run all the way to Wrestlemania. I thought they would have won at SummerSlam, destroyed the roster, took over Raw, won all the belts, discovered that it was them who put Undertaker in a vegetative state, roll onto Smackdown, Cena heel turn....leading to Cena Vs. Taker at WM....but it wasn't to happen... :(

Think you were giving the WWE creative a bit too much credit there. You'd be lucky if they planned all of 3 months in advance.

I respectfully disagree. Tarver and Otunga are muck, but Dav the rest aren't that bad. Slater is a good worker and done an awesome job selling Bret's dreadful offense at Summerfest. Skip is an awesome monster, he doesn't need 20 minute technical matches, the dude is a killer.
Gabriel is also very good as well. He can't talk but he can flip with the best of them. Young looked decent in his Cena match, I actually think Wade is the one who apart from Tarver and Otunga needs the best work, awesome talker he may be, but the guy is really green in the ring. :(

Anyways you can always add some of the NXT 2 lads, all of them bar Jo Mo's fella and Ryder's rookie can work pretty good.

Anyways back to Summerfest, I think Nexus should have won, when you consider that Miz attacked one of their members, Edge and Jericho attacked Cena and Bret got disqualified, Cena would not have lost any heat if he lost. You then keep the feud building and stacking the odds against Cena thus increeasing the WWE'S fanbase desire to see Cena get his ultimate revenge against them at Survivor Series.

Or even better....turn Cena heel at Survivor Series. ;)

What a swerve that would be when everyone is expecting Cena to actually triumph. And at a historic PPV...the seven on seven was better suited to the Survivor Series tradition anyway.

If and when they do finally turn Cena, I hope it's something decent. I think this could of been huge and took up the storyline aspect of the WWE all the way into April next year.

Sigh, Cena's never going to turn heel. It makes me sad that people here and every other wrestling board i visit keep wishing for it. He's been on top and face for over 6 years now, he's not changing.

They just fitted Cena out with new purple merch - you've got your answer as to weather he's turning heel any time soon right here.

Maybe when the kids stop buying Cena caps they might consider rebranding their favourite clothes horse - 'til then, you're just whispering to the wind.

Sure then they can't have been all that great in the first place.

    They have collective appeal.

I thought perhaps after two claiming the tag titles, another clinching the U.S and Barrett with the WWE Title around his waist - coupled with some individual character development, more ring thrashings and talent beatdowns, they would develop into a well known and despised force.

I miss when people used to throw all kinds of **** into the ring on Nitro in absolute disgust... :(

    Ah, the good oul days...

I can see the possibility of baratt winning the title in the 6 pack.
If not, I don't see it being the end of nexus, I can't say I know what way they are going to be booked after, it could go either way.

So, in other words, they'd have to hold every single title on Raw to be 'worthwhile'? Should Heath Slater wear a dress ála Santino and win the Diva's title just to be safe?

This was something that occurred to me too. It would have been the perfect main event for Survivor Series. Summerslam could have had one or 2 tag matches or singles matches featuring Nexus. Nexus was a brilliant idea and was working perfectly. They NEEDED to continue that momentum until Survivor Series. The very same thing happened with the ECW/WCW invasion, ruined a great story by having WWE roll over everybody.

The only member of Nexus or former member getting a belt is Bryan Barrett isnt winning at NOC I expect him to feud with Bryan for the US title after The Miz

I think Nexus will end soon some will end up on SD

    Cena aint going heel also

Well thats all imo of course ;)
