    Hi all,

I am really delighted to have received a job offer yesterday (maternity cover until Christmas) teaching Business, Maths and PLCs. I really was losing all hope of getting a job AGAIN this summer, so I hope this proves comforting to those who are still applying (as I only had 3 interviews after sending out loads of CVs). I qualified last year and did not get a job, so I completed a Masters this year.

The thing is I start tomorrow (with a staff meeting) and school the following day. My previous experience is limited to 1st & 2nd year classes (although I have tutored at third-level). I am really nervous about teaching senior classes. I have familiarised myself with the curriculum etc. and I have yet to speak to the teacher who I am covering for. My real issue is that I am writting up my thesis (as part of a MBS) which is due in on 24th Sept. I am really worried that I will struggle with class prep and writing the thesis simultaneously. I want to make a good impression in the school as jobs are so scarce and think I maybe over-extending myself.

Is/has anyone ever been in this position and have you any advice for a NQT starting out in there first job (particularly intested to hear from business teachers)?:)

    Thanks!

    Hi there

I have no experience with business, but what I would say to you is be very well prepared for the next few weeks so that you can spend most of your extra time writing the thesis. Just sit down one of the days this week and try to plan out your lessons. It may take you 2-3 whole days but then its done and you can spend your evenings and weekends writing the thesis.

Another thing I would say is take time wherever you can. If you can get into work an hour early in the morning use that to write the thesis.

Stuff a ten min lunch into you and use the rest of your hour break writing the thesis.

Take advantage of free periods to write the thesis.

I know its not the healthiest of advice as its likely to burn you out but its not long term!

    Good Luck
